Royal Masonic Institution For Boys.

Institution on Saturday last . ( Cheers . ) I wish , at the conclusion of my task , to say that what I have said I have said as a matter of duty . I thank all those who are here for the support—I think I may say the mere absolute fact of their present support—I do not think you would have been here to celebrate our ooth Anniversary if you thought all that had been said against us were true . ( Cheers . ) The Centenary Festival of the Girls' School has had an adverse effect upon us . That Centenary is the greatest event of

this year . We all congratulate that Institution upon the magnificent—aye , the triumphal—success achieved ; but we knew full well that we must suffer , - ¦ nrl the nfKtnnncmmt of the date of that Festival for a month was a great

advantage to them but a terrible detriment to our Institution , as I can prove to you when I read the results of the exertions of our good friends who have offered themselves as Stewards of this Festival ; but as I come here ior momeiu i win

as the representative ot the institution surtering a , .. « allow the " present " clouds and darkness" to overshadow anything in the future , but will believe that a large amount of " silver lining " will at no distant date cheer us in our onward course , and hope that we may continue

the management of the Boys School in its present state ^ of efficiency . ( Cheers ) . Bro . BINCKES then read the lists of subscriptions . Bro . the Rev . W ILLIAM W HITTLEY , P . G . D ., proposed " The Ladies , " and the toast was responded to by Bro . FREDERICK MEAD , P . G . S . B ., and the

dinner , of which Bro . James Hayho was toastmaster , came to an end . The brethren and ladies then adjourned to the Temple , where a charming concert was given under the direction of Bro . Franklin Clive , in which the following artistes took part : Miss Margaret Hoare , Miss Edith Bloomfield , Miss Ethel Winn , Miss Eleanor Rees , and Madame Florence Winn , Bros . Arthur Thompson , Herbert Schartau , G .

T . Miles , and Turle Lee . The Stewards' Badge , of which we give an illustration , has the Chairman ' s arms in centre , with circle round bearing his motto ; encircled with a garter bearing the name of Institution and date of Festival suspended from a blue and white ribbon , being the colours of the Chairman ' s arms .

The Jewel , which is silver-gilt , hallmarked and enamelled , was manufactured b y Bro . George Kenning , London .

Analysis Of The Returns.

ANALYSIS OF THE RETURNS .

I he foregoing list of figures would seem at first sight not to need aM very minute examination of its constituent parts . There are the Stewards names and the amounts of their respective lists , arranged in the usual order . and with the totals furnished at the end , as usual . But an exceptional y small table of Returns needs full y as much explanation as an exceptionally large one , and on a careful scrutiny of the one before us , the paucity ot "' Stewards and the smallness of their totals seeir ) to call for quite as m " '
