There was also a good balance in hand on the Benevolent Fund . Several members having

expressed their approval of these satisfactory results , the report was unanimously adopted . Ballot was then taken , and was declared unanimous in favour of Bro . J . VV . Stevens , 22 . 14 , as a joining member , and Messrs . J . Joel and E . J . W . Scott as candidates for initiation . Bro . W . H . Lee , P . P . G . D ., VV . M ., then proceeded to install Bro . Geo . R . Langley , P . M ., the W . M . elect , and this having

Messrs . J . Joel and E . J . VV . Scott were then impressively initiated into Freemasonry by the W . M ., and the ancient charge effectively delivered . Lodge was closed , and an excellent banquet was subsequently enjoyed . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were afterwards cordially given and heartily received . Bro . Raymond H . Thrupp , P . A . G . D . C , D . P . G . M .

, replying for " The Grand Officers , " said they had a new Grand Officer in the person of the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , who had shown his capacity for work and his zeal for Masonry for several years as a Provincial Grand Master . It was always a pleasure to visit a prosperous lodge and see good working , as shown by this new lodge . He never knew a new lodge to pay off every debt and have a

good balance in hand at the end of the first year . It was something unique , and the province ought to be proud of having such a wonderful lodge with such a good Treasurer . He congratulated Ihem most heartily on the success attained . He had the honour and pleasure of launching the lodge into existence , and under the care of the I . P . M ., Bro . W . H . Leewho

, was an old captain , and knew how to manage the ship , it had been wonderfully well steered , and , although the youngest child in the province , the lodge was one of which the Prov . Grand Master and the Prov . Grand Officers might well be proud . He only hoped it would go on and prosper , and when it attained its majority he should expect them to

have £ 1000 in hand . He wished to impress upon them that in their present VV . M . —Bro . Langley—they had a zealous and good worker , who had the principles at heart , and who thoroughly knew his business , and it would therefore be for the members to say whether his year was a success or not . If the W . M . had the hearty co-operation

of every officer and member , he ( Bro . Thrupp ) would be able at the end of the year to congratulate them still more than he had that night on the excellent working , the progress made , and the harmony of the members . In giving " The Provincial Grand Master and the rest of

the Provincial Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the W . M . said that in their lodge they were able to say how much they appreciated the work of the Provincial Grand Officers , because at the consecration eight months ago they knew how well those brethren carried out their duties .

Bro . Dr . A . E . Sansom , P . P . G . W ., returned thanks for the compliment paid the Prov . Grand Officers , and said it was a pleasure to attend a lodge doing so remarkably well and having the evidence of success . It was true they were present at the birth of the lodge , which had developed into an uncommonly fine child ; the nourishment given had done

it the greatest good , and it had been got over its teething without convulsions . It was a pleasure to attend and see the energy thrown into the work , which was done remarkably well . He had no doubt every officer had worked hard to make the lodge a credit to the province . Bro . Howard H . Room , Prov . Grand Secretary , also responded .

" The Health of the Worshipful Master " was proposed by Bro . W . H . Lee , I . P . M ., who said he had a great amount of pleasure in doing so , because he felt it would be received with the greatest heartiness and sincerity . They had in Bro . George R . Langley , VV . M ., a brother whom not only the members , but all those brethren who had rallied round him that evening would say that he possessed

great energy and ability , and was thoroughly well qualified for the post of Worshipful Master . Bro . Langley was thoroughly acquainted with Masonic ritual , was a good supporter of the Masonic Charities , and worked hard for the support of any case he took in hand . He was sure they had the right man in the right place , who had worked hard for the prosperity of the lodge , and he was glad to be

followed by such a brother as the second Worshipful Master , and was convinced they would be able to heartily congratulate Bro . Langley and the lodge at the termination of his year of office . Bro . Geo . R . Langley , P . M . 1 S 3 , W . M ., thanked the I . P . M . for his kind remarks , and the brethren for their reception of the toast . He would not detain them , but would only say that deeds spoke louder than words , and

asked them to judge him by his actions during the coming year , and pass their verdict upon him at the close . "The Initiates" was next given , and appropriately responded to by Bros . Joel and Scott . The Worshipful Master , in giving "The Immediate Past Master , " said they could not have had a better first Master than Bro . VV . H . Lee . The founders and members had

thoroughly appreciated Bro . Lee ' s efforts to ensure the success of the lodge , and were much indebted to him for accepting the position of first Master . He had the honour to pin upon the I . P . M . 's breast a Past Master ' s jewel , unanimously voted by the members , and trusted Bro . Lee would be spared many years to be with them and to wear it . It had been felt by the brethren that a great debt of

gratitude was due to the I . P . M ., who , although not in the prime of life , had taken upon himself the duties of the first W . M ., and on many occasions had torn himself away from his wife and family . They therefore felt they would like to present him with something to take home to his wife as a small souvenir of the occasion , and he ( the VV . M . ) had therefore to ask Bro . Lee to ask Mrs . Lee to accept a gold

bracelet , at the same time conveying the hope of the brethren that she would be spared many years to wear it , and that when she looked upon it she would consider that the brethren were not unmindful of the fact that Bro . Lee had torn himself away when he might have been otherwise engaged . Bro . VV . H . Lee , P . P . G . D ., I . P . M ., said he rose with

feelings of considerable diffidence to respond , and he most heartily thanked the VV . M . for the hearty manner in which he had proposed the toast , and the brethren for the cordiality with which they had received it . It had been a source of great pleasure to him to do all he could to further the lodge . It had been admitted that evening that the lodge had been a success , but the success should be attributed not so much

to the Master as to the officers and brethren who had supported him . They had all worked together for one object , and had had but one aim in view—the prosperity of the lodge . It was also their aim to make it financially a success , and he was pleased to say that object had been accomplished . He thanked them for the jewel so kindly voted to him , which he would always wear to remind him of the

pleasant and happy hours he had spent in their midst . There was , however , something more which had taken him completely by surprise , and which had been so carefully arranged that he had not the slightest idea anything of the sort was contemplated . He congratulated the VV . M . on the success with which it was carried out . He could assure them he apprec i ated their kindness very much . He

appreciated the Past Master ' s jewel , which they looked upon as the official reward of office , but the bracelet was beyond that . He regarded that as a token of personal esteem and regard , and quite apart from the official acknowledgment of his services as VV . M . He assured them he could not find words to express his feelings of gratitude to the

members of the lodge for their great kindness , and could only , on behalf of Mrs . Lee and himself , thank them most sincerely and heartily . Bro . C . I . Axford , P . P . D . G . D . C , returned thanks for "The Visitors , " and said he was not surprised that the lodge had been a success , but hoped it would continue to

prosper . Bro . E . A . Francis , P . M . 1 S 3 , said he felt something more than a visitor , knowing the members so well . He was proud to think that the lodge , founded by members of the lodge of instruction of which he was Preceptor , had attained such good results . He appreciated the kindness of the brethren , whom he had known for many years , and wished

the lodge every success . "The Treasurer , Secretary , and Officers" was next given , and , in response , Bro . J . D . E . Tarr , P . P . G . D ., Treas ., expressed his gratification that the lodge had not tried to run while only able to walk , and his pleasure at the beneficial results of this policy .

Bro . VV . W . Lee , S . VV ., having also replied , the Tyler's toast closed a successful meeting . Bro . Stuart Lane presided at the pianoforte , and amongst those who assisted in the musical programme were Bros . H . VV . Schartau , P . P . G . Org . ; A . Blenkarn , J . W . ; R . Porter , and W . Fawkes .

JERSEY . Yarborough Lodge ( No . 244 ) . —The above excellent and prosperous lodge , which is the senior lodge in the province , held a meeting on Wednesday , the Sth inst . at the Masonic Temple , Stopford-road , and installed the new VV . M . in the presence of a goodly array of brethren who attended from far and near to do honour to the occasion . There was a very fair sprinkling of the purple

Baudoux and Charles Kingsley were initiated into the mysteries of the Craft , and Bro . H . G . Gilby , 1 S 33 , received as a joining member . Letters of regret for non-attendance were read , and the

usual routine business of the lodge having been dispatched special interest centred in the proceedings as Bro . J . A . Balleine , S . VV ., VV . M . elect—who is well-known to the brethren in this province for his ritualistic ability and proverbial geniality—was installed into the chair by Bro . Clement Baker , P . W . J . Fentum , S . W . ; J . Caton , J . W . ; C . Donaldson , Treas . ; A . Anslow , S . D . ; C . H . Wilson , J . D . ; Josh Lesbinel , I . G . ; F . P . Cabot , P . M ., D . C . ; and H . G . Gilby , Org . The addresses were delivered by the Installing Master with considerable ability . The ceremonies of the installation were greatly enhanced by the execution of a choral service , specially arranged by the Musical Director

of the lodge , Bro . C . H . Wilson , the music being composed for the occasion by this talented brother . After the usual "Hearty good wishes" from the numerous visitors , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to Bro . George Parkinson ' s Royal Yacht Club Hotel , where a sumptuous banquet , which was in every way worthy of Bro . Parkinson's fame , was partaken of in the

magnificent , cool , and lofty banquet room of the hotel . The room seems indeed ably designed for such purposes , and specially adapted , and the brethren thoroughly enjoyed the excellent menu and delicious wines and fruits served b y the worthy host in profusion . During the post prandial proceedings of the evening a long list of toasts was disposed of , and Bro . L . VV . J .

Livermore was presented by Bro . Colonel E . C . Malet de Carteret , P . G . M ., in a felicitous speech , with a splendid Past Master ' s jewel to mark the appreciation of the brethren of the services rendered by him to the lodge during his year of office , and was gracefully acknowledged by the recipient . "The Officers '" toast was duly honoured , after which the Tyler ' s toast closed one of the most successful

gatherings ever held by this lodge . The VV . M . proved a good Toast Master , and was on the occasion eloquence itself . His neat little and cordial speeches to each toast he brought forward were admirable . Among the guests we noticed Bros . J . M . Gallichan , P . M . 491 and S 77 , late 590 ; H . E . Durell , P . M . ; Capt . J . L . VV . Lucas , W . M . S 77 ; P . A . Roissier ; F . R . Le

S 77 , P . P . S . G . W ., P . G . S . ; F . J . Godfray , P . M . 1003 ; and many officers of the Prov . Grand Lodge . Too great an encomium cannot be bestowed upon the Stewards , Bros . F . P . Cabot and C . H . Wilson , for their

good services rendered . An excellent selection of vocal and instrumental music was performed under the energetic and most able direction of Bro . C . H . Wilson , the Musical Director of the lodge . Mrs . Gilby ' s violin solo , " Mazurka Caracteristique , " by H . Wieniowski , was rendered in a charming and sympathetic style , that was appreciated by the brethren . Master T . Caton ' s performance of a violin

solo , "Sonata , " by Weber , accompanied by Bro . Fentum , S . W ., was executed in a masterly manner , and brought the youth of 12 years in for loud applause . Bro . Dickson sung in pleasing manner and much-admired style Tito Mattel s "Oh , oh , hear the wild wind blow" and Giro Pinsuti ' s " I fear no foe . " The humorous element was well sustained

by Bros . L . W . J . Livermore , C . Kingsley , and J . Jones . The banjo duet by Bros . C . Wilmore and J . Jones was very pretty , and brought down upon the artistes an ovation , and amongst others who assisted was Bro . G . D . C , D . P . G . M .

, replying for " The Grand Officers , " said they had a new Grand Officer in the person of the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , who had shown his capacity for work and his zeal for Masonry for several years as a Provincial Grand Master .

Fawkes .

Brodhunt , with his excellently-rendered song , "Empress of the sea , " by JBonheur .
