[ As regards your first question we beg to point out that the Royal Arch Regulations require that the election—and this will of course include re-election of Principals—shall take place annually , but in the case of the same companion continuing in oflice during a second year , it does not seem necessary for him to be re-installed . As regards your second question , it would be absurd for a ballot to proceed in behalf of a candidate who had withdrawn his name . l

ROVAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS . To the Editor ofthe "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , I was considerably astonished on reading the table of statistics of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls published in your issue of the 9 th inst ., to find that , according to it , Lincoln subscribed nothing for the year 188 S . Now , 1 myself took up as Steward in June of that year £ 116 ns ., and five other Stewards took £ 85 ns . 6 d ., making in all £ 202 2 s . 6 d ., and you will find those acknowledged in your own paper containing the amount of tbe Festival . NEW GRAND LODGES . To the Editor of the "Freemason : ' Dear Sir and Brother , I have read with great interest the various articles and letters which have appeared in your columns , and we have to thank Bro . Hughan for his bold and manly expression—when referring to the loyal body , whom you

unthinkingl y ( term the " insignificant minority "— " if any object ( to join the new Grand Lodge of New South Wales ) to do so they are distinctly within their rights , and will be upheld by us in this country . . . . tutional manner ; but as we did not , and do not yet , consider that the proper course was adopted in forming the Grand Lodge , we decide to remain English Masons , even should we be the only lodge in Australia . The Cambrian Lodge , of Australia , No . 656 ( E . G . ) , though their charter has been detained by an unauthorised and—to us a foreign , and consequently a non-competent

Masonic authority ( see Rule 126)—unknown person , will not be at all likely to act other than in a perfectly Masonically legal manner , and we regret that you are apparently so poorly informed on the subject as to allude to the few true and loyal men as an "insignificant minority . " I will simply ask here , how can a District Grand Lodge be dissolved ? Was the District Grand

Lodge ( E . C . ) in this colony dissolved in a proper and constitutional way ? Is the said District Grand Lodge not actually in existence at the present moment ? So far as we are concerned we do not object to tho Grand Lodge or to our members joining it , but we do object , and most strongly object , to our being forced to join it or any other body by any subterfuge or ruse whatever ; and the

wilfully detaining of our charter by the Secretary of United Grand Lodge of New South Wales is one of the most despicable actions of a body of mon who ought to know better . Possibly our passive opposition leads them to believe that they will eventually force us to join them , but they reckon without their host this time . We are not afraid of the light of day on any of our transactions , and

though the communications from us , which by this time has come before the Grand Lodge of England , makes no reference to the hardships , injustice , and great injury we have received at the hands of a few of our late members who kept (?) their Masonic oaths and installation charges , we are confident of receiving justice at the hands of our Mother Grand Lodge .

Believe me , sir , the Cambrians are not suffering from any imaginary grievance , but from one about which if you knew the whole of the circumstances you would soeak very plainly indeed . I am sorry that Bro . T . B . Whytehead has rushed into print on the subject , but he may rest assured that the Cambrian Lodge , 656 ( E . G . ) , will never do any dishonour to Masonry . —Yours fraternally , GEO . ROBINSON , Cambrian Lodge of Australia , N 0 . 65 G ( E . C ) . February 4 th .

STATISTICAL RETURNS .

To the Editor ofthe "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , A year or two since I had occasion to draw attention in your columns to the inaccuracy , as far as the Province of Lincolnshire was concerned , ot the Statistical Table appearing in your paper , and I had hoped that in

any future returns of a similar kind , greater care would be exercised to ensure their nearer approach to correctness . I regret to say , however , that such does not seem to be the case . Referring to page 14 S of your edition dated gth inst ., this province is made to appear as not having subscribed anything to the Girls' School during the year ending 1 SS 8 ,

and but £ 196 14 s . Gd . for the seven years 1 SS 2 to iSSS inclusive . Further , on page 165 in the Freemason of the 16 th inst ., Lincolnshire is put down as having subscribed to the Boys' School £ 21 in iSSS and £ 84 for the seven years as above . Through the kindness of the Secretaries of the respective schools , I have been supplied with particulars of the amounts received from the province for the

years in question which show that £ 457 15- .. ( 3 d . was subscribed to the Boys' School , and £ 327 is . 6 d . to the Girls , as against £ 84 and £ 19 6 14 s . 6 d . represented in the Tables . A sum of £ 202 2 S . 6 d . was subscribed to the Girls' School in 18 S 8 , in which year " P . M . 1607 " says nothing was received . Now , what can be said of statistics having no nearer approach to accuracy than this ? They are worthless

and misleading ; and if "P . M . 1607 " cannot come nearer to the actual facts , I would suggest to him that the compilation of statistics is not his forte , and that he had tetter try his hand at something else . Such Tables serve only as monuments of wasted time and energy , and as their accuracy has been called in question more than once , would it not be better , Mr . Editor , to insist that , in future , they shall either be more reliable or excluded from your columns ? —Yours fraternally , B . VICKERS , P . G . Sec . March 20 th .
