Long before his accession to that position he bail earned the gratitude and esteem of his province . It is pleasing
to all of us to know that although he has retired from participation in the government of the province , he still remains an active worker , and continues to give the Craft the benefit of his long and valuable experience and extensive knowledge . Lastly , but not least , and yoti will agree that no apology is needed on my part for mentioning the name of our M . li . Grand Superintendent , the Right Hon . W . L . Jackson , P . Z ., of Fidelity Chapter , uSy , to which 1 have also the honour to belong . It was for the purpose of installing our M . E . Coiip . Jackson as Grand Superintendent of West Yorkshire that this Provincial Grand Chapter
last visited Leeds . On November 16 th , 1 S 95 , the day of this important event , a large and brilliant assemblage of R . A . Masons gathered in the old Masonic Hall , Great George-street , the ceremony being performed by three of the most distinguished companions from the Grand Chapter : "F . A . Philbrick , Q . C ., Grand Regittrar , presiding as Grand Superintendent ; Sir John B . Monckton , Past Grand Sciibe N ., as Grand H . ; and Robert Grey , President of the Committee of General Purposes , as Grand J . Companions , 1 am glad to hold our chapter in this new Masonic Hall . I thank you all for coming in such large numbers , and I give hearty greetings to you and your chapters . "

Librarian , in accordance with notice , proposed " That the invitation given to each chapter some years ago , to send in to the Librarian a photograph of its charier , be renewed in the case of those chapters which have not yet responded . The photograph to be win , by 12 m ., and unmounted , having to be insetted in an album for rtlerence , and printed by carbon or platinotype process in order to secure permanency . " In moving the resolution he
staled that it w . is at the Provincial Grand Lodge meeting in Keighley , in October , iSSS , the motion was carried with regard lo having the lodge warrants cf the province photographed , and within iS months from that dale the task of getting them in had been completed . This very favourable response had not been effected without very considerable cost to himself by way of personal expenses . He trusted , however , that this would be
unncessary in the case of the chapter charters , as the desirability of the photographs of such documents being deposited in the archives of the province had been already fully demonstrated . He mentioned that several of the photographs sent in some years ago , being "silver" prints , were already fading , thus practically rendering unavailing the trouble and expenditure to which the donors and himself had been put .
The proposition was seconded by Comp . J TniuiTLinoN , P . Z . 306 , P . P . G . Soj ., and carried unanimously . There were no invitations for the annual meeting in May . The Prov . CONSECRATION OF THE ROBERT FREKE GOULD LODGE , No . 2874 .
The petitioners for this new lodge were all members of the Inhabitants ' Lodge , No . i , s , 5 , which at the time the warrant was applied for had no fewer than 208 members on its roll , of whom 120 were stationed at , or residing in , Gibraltar . There was a great and increasing flow of candidates for initiation , which rendered the work of the officers very onerous , while at the tame time the opportunities of advancement afforded lo the great bulk
of the brethren were of the most slender character . It was , therefore , considered that the time had arrived when an application for a new lodge , in older to lighten the labours of the office-bearers of No . 15 . 3 , and to open another avenue of Masonic promotion to military brethren on the Rockj was not only desirable but essential . The petition was cordially
recommended by the Inhabitants Lodge , of which in February , 1858 , Bro . R . l <" . Gould , then a Lieutenant in the usl Foot , became the W . M . on its revival after a dormancy of several years .
