on this orcasion to mention th . it he was a founder and first Z . of Excelsior Chapter , 10 4 . and of Prudence , 206 9 , in this city . John Cooper Malcolm , P . Z . 304 , 1 ' . 1 ' rov . G . II ., and Past Grand Soj . of Eng ., at present occupying the chair ol ' / .. in the Alfred Chapter , 305 , aid acting as Prov . G . H . to-day , is one whose name rctj :: ires no words of commendation from me . He but recently retired from the office which 1 at present hold . Long before his accession to that position he bail earned the gratitude and esteem of his province . It is pleasing

to all of us to know that although he has retired from participation in the government of the province , he still remains an active worker , and continues to give the Craft the benefit of his long and valuable experience and extensive knowledge . Lastly , but not least , and yoti will agree that no apology is needed on my part for mentioning the name of our M . li . Grand Superintendent , the Right Hon . W . L . Jackson , P . Z ., of Fidelity Chapter , uSy , to which 1 have also the honour to belong . It was for the purpose of installing our M . E . Coiip . Jackson as Grand Superintendent of West Yorkshire that this Provincial Grand Chapter

last visited Leeds . On November 16 th , 1 S 95 , the day of this important event , a large and brilliant assemblage of R . A . Masons gathered in the old Masonic Hall , Great George-street , the ceremony being performed by three of the most distinguished companions from the Grand Chapter : "F . A . Philbrick , Q . C ., Grand Regittrar , presiding as Grand Superintendent ; Sir John B . Monckton , Past Grand Sciibe N ., as Grand H . ; and Robert Grey , President of the Committee of General Purposes , as Grand J . Companions , 1 am glad to hold our chapter in this new Masonic Hall . I thank you all for coming in such large numbers , and I give hearty greetings to you and your chapters . "

Comp . WILLIAM -WATSON , P . Z ., P . P . G . Soj ., Hon . Librarian , in accordance with notice , proposed " That the invitation given to each chapter some years ago , to send in to the Librarian a photograph of its charier , be renewed in the case of those chapters which have not yet responded . The photograph to be win , by 12 m ., and unmounted , having to be insetted in an album for rtlerence , and printed by carbon or platinotype process in order to secure permanency . " In moving the resolution he

staled that it w . is at the Provincial Grand Lodge meeting in Keighley , in October , iSSS , the motion was carried with regard lo having the lodge warrants cf the province photographed , and within iS months from that dale the task of getting them in had been completed . This very favourable response had not been effected without very considerable cost to himself by way of personal expenses . He trusted , however , that this would be

unncessary in the case of the chapter charters , as the desirability of the photographs of such documents being deposited in the archives of the province had been already fully demonstrated . He mentioned that several of the photographs sent in some years ago , being "silver" prints , were already fading , thus practically rendering unavailing the trouble and expenditure to which the donors and himself had been put .

The proposition was seconded by Comp . J TniuiTLinoN , P . Z . 306 , P . P . G . Soj ., and carried unanimously . There were no invitations for the annual meeting in May . The Prov . Grand Chapter was closed in form . About 50 companions sat down to tea , the Acting Grand Siipcfiuleudeiil presiding .

CONSECRATION OF THE ROBERT FREKE GOULD LODGE , No . 2874 .

The petitioners for this new lodge were all members of the Inhabitants ' Lodge , No . i , s , 5 , which at the time the warrant was applied for had no fewer than 208 members on its roll , of whom 120 were stationed at , or residing in , Gibraltar . There was a great and increasing flow of candidates for initiation , which rendered the work of the officers very onerous , while at the tame time the opportunities of advancement afforded lo the great bulk

of the brethren were of the most slender character . It was , therefore , considered that the time had arrived when an application for a new lodge , in older to lighten the labours of the office-bearers of No . 15 . 3 , and to open another avenue of Masonic promotion to military brethren on the Rockj was not only desirable but essential . The petition was cordially

recommended by the Inhabitants Lodge , of which in February , 1858 , Bro . R . l <" . Gould , then a Lieutenant in the usl Foot , became the W . M . on its revival after a dormancy of several years . Many other ollicers serving in the ganison at the same time , and also , 1 considerable number of non-commissioned ollicers , were among the early members of the resuscitated lodge .

The ceremony was greatly enhanced by the rendering of Bro . Dr . Spark ' s consecration music by a choir of nine voices under the able directorship of Bro . A . J . Weir , P . M . 153 , P . D . G . W ., aided by the Dist . G . Organist , Bro . A . H . Digby , L . of R . A . M . and R . C . M . The rendering of the anthem , "Hail ! Masonry divine , " deserves special mention . Solos were sung by Bros . H . Sharp ( bass ) , A . J . Weir ( tenor ) , and R . J . Gibbs ( bass ) .

At the conclusion of the ceremony of consecration , Bro . J . CUNNINGHAM , in the name of several of the founders , presented to the lodge the working tools , columns , and various articles of furniture . The Consecrating Officer then vacated the chair , which was taken by Bro . R . J . Gibbs , who proceeded to install the W . M . designate , Bro . E . J . Leggett , S . W . 153 .

Ihe election of Treasurer and Tyler having taken pi ice , the newlyinstalled Master proceeded to invest his officers as follows : Bros . R . J . Gibbs , I . P . M . ; G . M . Chimes , S . W . ; P . The W . M . then proposed— " That a hearty vote of thanks be accorded the Consecrating Officer for the great service he had rendered the lodge in having performed the ceremony in so praiseworthy a manner , and that the same be recorded in the minutes of the lodge . " This was seconded by Bro . G . M . CHIMES , S . W ., and carried with acclamation .

Bro . R . J . GIBBS then proposed— " That W . Bro . Robert Freke Gould , P . M . 153 , Gibraltar ( 1 S 5 S ) , P . G . Deacon England—after whom this lodge is named—become an honorary member of the lodge . " This was seconded by Bro . J . CUNNINGHAM , and carried unanimously . The name of Bro . T . F . Cooper was also proposed as an honorary member by Bro . R . J . Gums , which was seconded by Bro . -P . F . LYONS , J . W ., and carried unanimously . ,

Bro . 1 . 1 < . COOPER , in thanking the brethren for their kind recognition of his services , spoke of the pleasure it had afforded him in having worked for the past 11 years among the brethren of Gibraltar . He referred to the great success of this meeting being due to the untiring energies of Bros . Gibbs , Weir , and Cunningham , together with the faithful support of their brother founders . He trusted that this new lodge would have a career as successful as the one from which it sprang , viz ., the dear old Inhabitants ,

No . 153 , of which they all were justly proud . Votes of thanks were proposed to the ollicers assisting in the ceremony of consecration , the Installing Officer , and the choir . A Committee was appointed to frame bye-laws . Two gentlemen were proposed as candidates for initiation and 12 brethren—three of whom were commissioned , and two non-commissioned officers—were proposed as joining and affiliating membsrs .

" Hearty good wishes" were expressed on behalf of the several Craft lodges in Gibraltar , together with various lodges in the mother country and in the Colonies .

Grand Master expressing " Loyal and fraternal greetings fron the Robert Freke Gould Lodge silting at inaugural binqttit , " to which H . R . H . most graciously replied , expressing his thinks and good wishes .

Bro . Cooi'hR , in proposing " The Health of the W . M ., Bro . E . . }• Leggetl , " said that the lodge were fortunate in having for its first VV . M . a brother of such experience . He was one that had passed through the chair in the Irish Constitution , and had further held several offices in the Eng lish , rising to S . VV . in the Inhabitants . He was sure the founders of this lodge had acted wisely in choosing Uro . Leggett for this high office .

Bro . Cooi'hR , in proposing " The Health of the W . M ., Bro . E . . }• Leggetl , " said that the lodge were fortunate in having for its first VV . M . a brother of such experience . He was one that had passed through the chair in the Irish Constitution , and had further held several offices in the Eng lish , rising to S . VV . in the Inhabitants . He was sure the founders of this lodge had acted wisely in choosing Uro . Leggett for this high office .
