Whatley , S . E . McLewin , W . H . Bartlett , and W . F . Oxley , Stwds . ; and C . Harrison , Tyler . A Past Master's jewel was presented to Bro . J . A . Chalk , I . P . M ., and suitably acknowledged . Lodge was closed , and a well-served banquet was enjoyed under the presidency of the newly-installed W . M . The W . M . proposed the loyal and Masonic feasts with brevity , but with heartiness and sincerity .

Bro . F . Flood , P . M ., P . P . A . G . D . C , Sec , replied for "The Provincial Grand Officers , ' and said this was always a popular toast in a Surrey Lodge . The _ brethren horoured to reply did not regard it as personal to themselves but _ as referring to the body which governed the wh < le of the lodges in Surrey , and thus imitated the Grand l . od » , e . The Mozart Lodge was well thought of , and deservedly so , because it had done good woik uncj < r cii cumstances which no other lodge could claim . lodge had now r . asst d its youth and could count as a man , although it hid done a man s woik in the province for some time past . This fict hid not been overlooked by the nuthoritj , s for few Prov . G . Lodges went by without a provincial collar being bestowed upon it . The number of collars to be given each year wis only half the number of lodges , and as their lodge on one occasion received two collars , those brethren blessed with a knowledge of higher mathematics would understand that this wis a liberal

allowance . They had provided Prov . Grand Lodge with good Organists—notably Bros . Macfarlane , Branscombe , and Toop , the latter of whom hadjiot yet reached the chair of the lodge . Last year they receivad no collar , only from the fact that there was no brother qualified to take it , but next year several members would answer the description and they hoped to be rewarded . Bro . J . A . Chalk , I . P . M ., proposed " The VV . M . " in cordial terms , wishing him a successful year of office .

Bro . W . Salmon , W . M ., returned thanks , remarking that it was the proudest moment of ' lis life . He should like to do som ; thing very good ii the wiy of establishing a precedent . They had been few in numbers for some time past , but the lodge was in a healthy state , and they were paying their way without the aid of initiates . Although they were in a good position , he should like to see that position improved . They had

celebrated their 2 ist birthday , and he was honoured in being their W . M . on such an occasion . He was supported by a good set of officers , who all knew their respective duties , and would do them to the best of their ability . He again thanked them , and hoped they would all spend an enjovable year together . Bros . W . W . Lee , P . M ., A . Holmes , P . M ., and E . T . Atkinson , W . M . 3191 , replied on behalf of " The Visitors . "

The W . M ., in submitting the toast , made sympathetic reference to the absence of one visitor who was frequently with them—Bro . Wills , P . M . Selwyn Lodge , who had met with an unfortunate accident . He asked the Secretary to write , expressing the sympathy of the members . Bro . F . Flood , Sec , explained the accident , which arose when they were out cycling

together . Since 1 SS 5 Rio . Wills and he had exchanged visits between their respective lodges , and he regretted to say thst his friend was in a serious condition . He would convey the sympathy of the brethren . "The Past Masters" and "The Officers" were duly honoured before the proceedings terminated .

Rahere Lodge , No . 2546 . An ordinary meeting of this ledge was I eld at the Frascati Restaurant on the 10 th instant , Bro . P . S . Abraham , W . M ., being in the chair . Lodge being opened , Mr . Walton R . Read was initiated , Bro . J . Peploe Cartwright , P . G . Reg . Shropshire , was elected a joining member , and Bro . Edge was admitted to the Second Degree , and Bro . Keown to the Third Degree . The W . Masters of the

Middlesex Hospital Lodge , the Chere Keme Lodge , the London Hospital Lodge , and the Cheselden Lodge were elected honorary members of the Rahere Lodge during their year ol effice . The jewel of a S . G . C . was voted by the lodge to Bro . the Rev . Sir Borradaile Savory , Bart ., and a Deputy G . D . C . ' s to Bro . Gripper , I . P . M ., on the occasion of their appointment to Grand office by the M . W . G . M . A sum of 10 guineas was contributed out of the lodge funds to each of the three Masonic Charities . The brethren and their guests afterwards dined together .

James Towning and John Coutts , and as it proved unanirrous for both , they were ably initiated by the W . M The lodge jewel was presented to Bro . W . G . L . Roberts . The W . M . alluded to the distinguished courage the brother had shown in rescuing from drowning the lives of a lady and gentleman .

The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to St . James ' s Restaurant , where a well-appointed banquet was served . Afterwards the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed and duly honoured . The toast of "The King , the Protector of the Craft , " having been given , "God save the King " was sung . Then followed " The M . W . G . M ., the Duke of Connaught , K . G ., the M . W . Pro G . M ., the R . W . Dep . G . M , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past . " Bro . Seaman , S . W ,, proposed the toast of "The W . M . " He spoke of the ¦ elaticns of the ollicers with the W . M ., and his good qualities . He gave the health of their first Master .

The W . M . replied . He heart ly thanked the brethren for the cordial reception accorded to him . The W . M . gave the toast of " 1 he Initiates . " He said this was a red letter day for the lodge . He was proud of the brethren he had initiated . The initiates briefly responded . The W . M . gave the toast of " Bro . C . W . P . Douglas de Fe . izi , D . Sec South Africa . " He thought it was a great honour to have bim as a gue-t .

Bro . de Fenzi replied . He enlarged on Freemasonry generall)— that it was of all sects and creeds universally . He said that Masonry in Natal was the same as in England , the mother country . He alluded to the generous aid England had contributed to help the Natal brethren in their distress . He heartily thanked those who had so generously come forward in the good work . Bro . de Fenzi was proposed as an Hon . Member .

Bro . de Fenzi gratefully accepted the honour . The toasts of "The Visitors , " " The Past Masters , Treasurer , and Secretary , " and " The Officers " followed , and received due honour . The Tyler's loait concluded the evening . Miss Edith Hands , Bros . D . P . Myles ( Harp ) , Cockburn , Walter Churchill { recitation ) contributed to the evening ' s entertainment .

BRO . DR . MORDAUNT SIGISMUND delivered a most interesting lecture on " English and Ameiican Masonry versus Grand Orient" before a good attendance at the Restaurant Fiascati , on Tuesday last , the 17 th instant .

Pythagoras Chapter , No . 88 . INSTALLATION OF COMP . W . SINDALL . The installation meeting of the Pythagoras Chapter , attached to the Scientific Lodge , No . 8 S , was held on the I 2 th ~ instant , in the chapter room at the Lion Hotel , and was attended by about 45 companions , including several visitors . Comp . A . E . Chaplin installed his successor , Comp . VV . Sindall , as M . E . Z . The other two Principals , Comps . J . H . Moyes and W . Purchas , were unable to be present , the former being now at Davos Platz , and their chairs were taken by Comps . F . Piggott ,

P . P . G . IL . and W . P . Spalding , P . P . G . J . The officers elected in June were invested . Three brethren were exalted by the newly-installed M . E . Z . The work of the P . S . was ably discharged by Comp . T . Leader , in conjunction with Comp . B . Chennell , P . P . G . J ., in the chair . Subsequently Comp . Spalding gave the historical , and Comp . Pigfsrott the symbolical , lecture ; after which Comp . Chennell described the pedestal , and give the signs . A sum of 10 guineas was voted to Masonic Charity , the Treasurer ' s accounts were received , and the chapter was closed . After the banquet some songs were sweetly rendered by Miss Annie Bartle .

Aire and Calder Chapter , No . 458 . INSTALLATION OF COMP . W . BOULTON . The installation convocation was held at the Masonic Rooms , Goole , on Monday , the 9 th inst ., when Comp . W . Boulton was reinstalled in the chair of Z . ; Comp . R . Alcock , J ., in the chair of H . ; and Comp . Timm in the chair of J . Comp . J . Constable , P . Z , P . P . G . S . N ., installed the Z . and J ., and Comp . Boulton the H . The following officers were also invested ! Comps . Hunt , S . E . ; Jenkins , S . N . ; Lindley , P . S . ; Heptonstall , Std . ; and Young , Janitor . The companions adjourned to the banquet room , and partook of the customary repast , with Masonic toasts and song .

M ., it provedunanimously in his favour , and he was exalted most impressively by Comp . George Davis , P . Z . The lectures were delivered respectively by the acting M . E . Z ., H ., and J . The installation of the Principals then took place as follows : Comps . C . E . Cassal , H ., M . E . Z . ; C . Webster , J ., H . ; and W . R . Flack , J . The election of S . E . then took place . This was necessary in consequence of the enforced resignation , through illness , of the late S . E ., Comp . S .

H . Parkhouse , P . Z ., founder and father of the clupter . Comp . E . Monson , P . Z ., was proposed and elected as S . E . The other officers appointed were Comps . H . J . Millington , S . N . ; R . C . Green , P . Z ., Treas . ; VV . Middleweek , P . S . ; A . R . Finch , ist A . S . ; II . F . Foale , 2 nd A . S . ; H . A . O . Scheof , D . C . ; and Lackland , Janitor . The Auditors' report was received , adopted , and ordered to be entered on the minutes . The letter from Comp . S . H . Parkhouse , P . Z ., tendering his resignation as S . E . was accepted with deep regret . Comp . Green proposed , and Comp . Lander

seconded , in a few words expressive of great feeling , " That Comp . Parkhouse should be elected as an honorary member of the chapter . " The proposition was carried with unanimous approbation . The chapter was then closed . After the banquet the usual loval and R . A . ( oasts were prooosed . The M . E . Z . hut gave " The King , the Proteitorof R . A . Masonry . " " God save the King " was sung .

The toasts of " The Grand Z ., H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , " and " The Grand H ., the Grand J ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " followed . Thel . P . Z . gave "The Health of the M . E . Z . " He said that evening he gave excellent promise of a year of good work . The M . E . Z . replied , and in doing so alluded to the great lo ; s the chaster had sustained in the forced retirement of Com ? . S . II . Parkhouse , P . Z ,, from the office of Scribe E . He said that he had a deep personal regard for their worthy com ? an oi , and

spoke of the kindness the late Sciibe E . had ever shown him in the chapter , and | how sincere was the wish of all the companions that he might soon recover fro n his illness . He thanked the 1 . P . Z ,, Comp . French , for the kind manner in which he hid spoken , and testified most warmly to the substantial help he had recei / ed from Co no . George Davis , who had so ably and so admirably installed him . He also alluded to Comps . Green , Adkins , and the other P . Zs . of the chapter , and said the influence for

good was felt in the homes and families of good conscientious Freemasons . The M . E . Z . gave " The Health of the I . P . Z ., Comp . French . " He praised the good woik he had done during his year of office , and , as a convincing proof that the chapter appreciated it , he had great p ' easure in affixing a P . Z . 's jewel , voted by the chapter , on his predecessor ' s breast , with his best wishes that he might live long to wear it .

Comp . French replied , thanking the M . E . Z . and the companions for the great honour conferred upon him . Then followed " The Health of tbe H . and J ., " who each briefly replied . The M . E . Z . gave the toast of "The Exaltee , " and said Coup . Dr . McLeod wis an arquisition to the chapter , and he was personally known to miny of the companions . He said the R . A . was a difficult Degree to work , but was worth all the pains taken to acquire the ritual . He trusted that the exaltee had appreciated the beautiful ceremony in which he had taken part . The Exaltee replied , and said how deeply he had been impressed , and trusted he might prove in the future a worthy member of the chapter .

The toast of "The P . Zs . " was next proposed , and their services were spoken of in the highest terms . The P . Zs . present replied , each according to his seniority . Then was given "The Health of Comp . Geo . Davis , P . Z ., the Installing Principal . " The M . E . Z . said that his ability to perform any part of the work and direct others was so well known and gratefully appreciated thit he ( the M . E . Z . ) need not do more than allude to it .

Comp . Geo . Davis replied , and said , indeed , his work was a labour of love . He thanked the companions heartily for their appreciation of his services , and stated that he was prcud of his pupils in the R . A . To the toast of " The Visitors" Comp . Driver , P . Z ., replied . The toast of " The Scribe E ., the Treasurer , and the Officers of the Chapter , " was next given . The Scribe E ., acting P . S ., and Scribe N . replied . The Janitor's toast brought a pleasant evening to a close .

M . and the minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed . The ballot was taken for . Messrs . James Towning and John Coutts , and as it proved unanirrous for both , they were ably initiated by the W . M The lodge jewel was presented to Bro . W . G . L . Roberts . The W . M . alluded to the distinguished courage the brother had shown in rescuing from drowning the lives of a lady and gentleman .

The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to St . James ' s Restaurant , where a well-appointed banquet was served . Afterwards the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed and duly honoured . The toast of "The King , the Protector of the Craft , " having been given , "God save the King " was sung . Then followed " The M . W . G . M ., the Duke of Connaught , K . G ., the M . W . Pro G . M ., the R . W . Dep . G . M , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past . " Bro . Seaman , S . W ,, proposed the toast of "The W . M . " He spoke of the ¦ elaticns of the ollicers with the W . M ., and his good qualities . He gave the health of their first Master .

The W . M . replied . He heart ly thanked the brethren for the cordial reception accorded to him . The W . M . gave the toast of " 1 he Initiates . " He said this was a red letter day for the lodge . He was proud of the brethren he had initiated . The initiates briefly responded . The W . M . gave the toast of " Bro . C . W . P . Douglas de Fe . izi , D . Sec South Africa . " He thought it was a great honour to have bim as a gue-t .

Bro . de Fenzi replied . He enlarged on Freemasonry generall)— that it was of all sects and creeds universally . He said that Masonry in Natal was the same as in England , the mother country . He alluded to the generous aid England had contributed to help the Natal brethren in their distress . He heartily thanked those who had so generously come forward in the good work . Bro . de Fenzi was proposed as an Hon . Member .

Bro . de Fenzi gratefully accepted the honour . The toasts of "The Visitors , " " The Past Masters , Treasurer , and Secretary , " and " The Officers " followed , and received due honour . The Tyler's loait concluded the evening . Miss Edith Hands , Bros . D . P . Myles ( Harp ) , Cockburn , Walter Churchill { recitation ) contributed to the evening ' s entertainment .

BRO . DR . MORDAUNT SIGISMUND delivered a most interesting lecture on " English and Ameiican Masonry versus Grand Orient" before a good attendance at the Restaurant Fiascati , on Tuesday last , the 17 th instant .

Pythagoras Chapter , No . 88 . INSTALLATION OF COMP . W . SINDALL . The installation meeting of the Pythagoras Chapter , attached to the Scientific Lodge , No . 8 S , was held on the I 2 th ~ instant , in the chapter room at the Lion Hotel , and was attended by about 45 companions , including several visitors . Comp . A . E . Chaplin installed his successor , Comp . VV . Sindall , as M . E . Z . The other two Principals , Comps . J . H . Moyes and W . Purchas , were unable to be present , the former being now at Davos Platz , and their chairs were taken by Comps . F . Piggott ,

P . P . G . IL . and W . P . Spalding , P . P . G . J . The officers elected in June were invested . Three brethren were exalted by the newly-installed M . E . Z . The work of the P . S . was ably discharged by Comp . T . Leader , in conjunction with Comp . B . Chennell , P . P . G . J ., in the chair . Subsequently Comp . Spalding gave the historical , and Comp . Pigfsrott the symbolical , lecture ; after which Comp . Chennell described the pedestal , and give the signs . A sum of 10 guineas was voted to Masonic Charity , the Treasurer ' s accounts were received , and the chapter was closed . After the banquet some songs were sweetly rendered by Miss Annie Bartle .

Aire and Calder Chapter , No . 458 . INSTALLATION OF COMP . W . BOULTON . The installation convocation was held at the Masonic Rooms , Goole , on Monday , the 9 th inst ., when Comp . W . Boulton was reinstalled in the chair of Z . ; Comp . R . Alcock , J ., in the chair of H . ; and Comp . Timm in the chair of J . Comp . J . Constable , P . Z , P . P . G . S . N ., installed the Z . and J ., and Comp . Boulton the H . The following officers were also invested ! Comps . Hunt , S . E . ; Jenkins , S . N . ; Lindley , P . S . ; Heptonstall , Std . ; and Young , Janitor . The companions adjourned to the banquet room , and partook of the customary repast , with Masonic toasts and song .

Earl of Carnarvon Chapter , No . 1642-INSTALLATION OF COMP . C . E . CASSAL . ' The installation meeting of this chapter was held at Ladbroke Hall , Notting Hill , on the 12 th inst . There were present Comps . J . French , M . E . Z . ; C . E . Cassal , H ., M . E . Z . elect ; C . Webster , J ., H . elect ; E . M . Lander , P . Z . ; R . C Green , P . Z ., Treas . ; J . S . The chapter having been opened , the minutes were read and confirmed . The billot was taken for Bro . Dr . W . A . McLeod , M . B . C . M ., it provedunanimously in his favour , and he was exalted most impressively by Comp . George Davis , P . Z . The lectures were delivered respectively by the acting M . E . Z ., H ., and J . The installation of the Principals then took place as follows : Comps . C . E . Cassal , H ., M . E . Z . ; C . Webster , J ., H . ; and W . R . Flack , J . The election of S . E . then took place . This was necessary in consequence of the enforced resignation , through illness , of the late S . E ., Comp . S .

H . Parkhouse , P . Z ., founder and father of the clupter . Comp . E . Monson , P . Z ., was proposed and elected as S . E . The other officers appointed were Comps . H . J . Millington , S . N . ; R . C . Green , P . Z ., Treas . ; VV . Middleweek , P . S . ; A . R . Finch , ist A . S . ; II . F . Foale , 2 nd A . S . ; H . A . O . Scheof , D . C . ; and Lackland , Janitor . The Auditors' report was received , adopted , and ordered to be entered on the minutes . The letter from Comp . S . H . Parkhouse , P . Z ., tendering his resignation as S . seconded , in a few words expressive of great feeling , " That Comp . Parkhouse should be elected as an honorary member of the chapter . " The proposition was carried with unanimous approbation . The chapter was then closed . After the banquet the usual loval and R . A . ( oasts were prooosed . The M . E . Z . hut gave " The King , the Proteitorof R . A . Masonry . " " God save the King " was sung .

The toasts of " The Grand Z ., H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , " and " The Grand H ., the Grand J ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " followed . Thel . P . Z . gave "The Health of the M . E . Z . " He said that evening he gave excellent promise of a year of good work . The M . E . Z . replied , and in doing so alluded to the great lo ; s the chaster had sustained in the forced retirement of Com ? . S . II . Parkhouse , P . Z ,, from the office of Scribe E . He said that he had a deep personal regard for their worthy com ? an oi , and

spoke of the kindness the late Sciibe E . had ever shown him in the chapter , and | how sincere was the wish of all the companions that he might soon recover fro n his illness . He thanked the 1 . P . Z ,, Comp . French , for the kind manner in which he hid spoken , and testified most warmly to the substantial help he had recei / ed from Co no . George Davis , who had so ably and so admirably installed him . He also alluded to Comps . Green , Adkins , and the other P . Zs . of the chapter , and said the influence for

good was felt in the homes and families of good conscientious Freemasons . The M . E . Z . gave " The Health of the I . P . Z ., Comp . French . " He praised the good woik he had done during his year of office , and , as a convincing proof that the chapter appreciated it , he had great p ' easure in affixing a P . Z . 's jewel , voted by the chapter , on his predecessor ' s breast , with his best wishes that he might live long to wear it .

Comp . French replied , thanking the M . E . Z . and the companions for the great honour conferred upon him . Then followed " The Health of tbe H . and J ., " who each briefly replied . The M . E . Z . gave the toast of "The Exaltee , " and said Coup . Dr . McLeod wis an arquisition to the chapter , and he was personally known to miny of the companions . He said the R . A . was a difficult Degree to work , but was worth all the pains taken to acquire the ritual . He trusted that the exaltee had appreciated the beautiful ceremony in which he had taken part . The Exaltee replied , and said how deeply he had been impressed , and trusted he might prove in the future a worthy member of the chapter .

The toast of "The P . Zs . " was next proposed , and their services were spoken of in the highest terms . The P . Zs . present replied , each according to his seniority . Then was given "The Health of Comp . Geo . Davis , P . Z ., the Installing Principal . " The M . E . Z . said that his ability to perform any part of the work and direct others was so well known and gratefully appreciated thit he ( the M . E . Z . ) need not do more than allude to it .

Comp . Geo . Davis replied , and said , indeed , his work was a labour of love . He thanked the companions heartily for their appreciation of his services , and stated that he was prcud of his pupils in the R . A . To the toast of " The Visitors" Comp . Driver , P . Z ., replied . The toast of " The Scribe E ., the Treasurer , and the Officers of the Chapter , " was next given . The Scribe E ., acting P . S ., and Scribe N . replied . The Janitor's toast brought a pleasant evening to a close .
