ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS .

The Quarterly Court of the Governors and Subscribers of this Institution was held on Saturday last at Freemasons' Tavern , Col . Creaton , Grand Treasurer , in the chair . After the reading and confirmation of the minutes , Bro . H ENRY SMITH , Prov . G . Sec . West Yorkshire , proposed the reelection of Col . Creaton as Treasurer of the Institution . Col . Creaton had served the Institution well and faithfully ; he took a deep interest in it , and

he ought to be unanimously re-elected . Bro . W . ROEBUCK , P . G . S ., seconded the motion . The motion having been carried unanimously , Col . C REATON thanked the brethren very much for the confidence they reposed in him . Before proceeding to the election of the General Committee ,

Bro . H ENRY SMITH wished to say a few words in regard to a suggestion that had been made some years ago—that there should be certain agents for the Charities in different provinces , to endeavour to increase the number of subscribers . If this were carried out there would not be the necessity for the Secretaries of the various Institutions to be so frequently requested to

visit the provinces . There mig ht be a small commission paid to such agents . No harm would result tothe Institution from the payment of a few shillings , or perhaps not more than £ 2 for printing and postage , while there would be a large accession to the funds of the Institution from the efforts of a few energetic brethren in the provinces on behalf of the Institution . If a Secretary of the Institution was sent down the cost was probably £ _ or £ 6 .

Col . C REATON said the suggestion no doubt was a good one ; but it was anticipated by a law of the Institution . He did not think much had been done upon it up to the present time , but he was sure the Institution would reimburse any expenses a brother was put to in increasing the funds . The law of the Institution was that an agent might be appointed by the General

Commitee in every large town or for certain districts or centres that might be determined , whose duty should be to collect subscriptions for the Institution , and such agent should be paid a commission on such a scale as the Committee should see fit . Bro . HENRY SMITH said he had entirely overlooked that rule .

Bro . J . L . H INE , of Manchester , said the rule had been in force

Visit Of Bro. Lord Chief Justice Fitzgibbon To The Institution.

VISIT OF BRO . LORD CHIEF JUSTICE FITZGIBBON TO THE INSTITUTION .

A visit was paid to the Institution on Thursday , the 12 th inst ., by Bro . Lord Chief Justice Fitzgibbon , who takes so great an interest in the Dublin Masonic School , of which Miss Triggs , formerly of this Institution , is now head governess . His lordship wrote to the head governess that he was anxious to see the school while the children were in class as well as during

recreation , and the visitwas arranged accordingly . He was received by Bro . Richardson , P . G . D ., the chairman for the month ; Bros . Hammcrton and Matthews , members of the House Committee ; Bro . Hedges , Secretary ; and Miss Jarwood , the matron . The children first went through their calisthenics , after that his lordship was conducted through the dormitories and

other parts of the building . The working of the domestic arrangements were explained by Miss Sheppard , the assistant matron . In the meantime the children had gone to their respective classes . His lordship took great interest in the piano practice , which happened to be a piece for twelve children at six pianos , in preparation for the coming festival ; the drawing class was

closely examined , and the needlework class , into the details of which Bro . Fitzgibbon made enquiries , with a view to ascertaining the system by which all the clothing of the school was made b y the children ; also the singing class , which has been undertaken by Mrs . Howell , who so generously devotes to it so much time and trouble . His lordship was then conducted round the

different classes by Miss Redgrave ( in the absence of Miss Davis , who has not yet sufficiently recovered from her late serious illness ) . The system of education was explained by Miss Redgrave , and his lordship expressed his congratulations at the satisfactory result of the system introduced b y Miss

Davis as shown in the last Cambridge examination , when 14 children out of 15 passed , four of them with honours . Before leaving his lordship expressed his thanks for his reception . He said he had come to obtain hints for the Irish School , and the result had been most satisfactory to him in every way .

ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR BOYS .

Ihe Quarterly Court of the Subscribers to this Institution was held at Freemasons' Tavern on Monday . The chair was occupied by Col . Creaton , Grand Treasurer , and there were a large number of Provincial and London brethren present . After the reading and confirmation of the minutes ,

Bro . BINCKES ( Secretary ) informed the Court that , £ 2000 was about to be invested , making £ 5000 on account of the ^ Sooo for the Preparatory School .

Col . CREATON next proposed the re-election of Bro . George Plucknett as Treasurer of the Institution , and spoke in high terms of Bro . Plucknett ' s performance of his duties in that office . Bro . RAYNHAM W . S TEWART , P . G . D ., seconded the re-election . The motion was carried unanimously . The General Committee of Life and Annual Subscribers was unanimously re-elected .

The number of vacancies at this election was declared to be 13 instead of 12 .

It was resolved that the case of Hippey , No . 41 on the list , should be admitted by purchase ; Bro . ROEBUCK , P . G . S ., proposed the resolution , and Bro . E . F . STORR , P . M . 22 , seconded it . The case of George W . King Hill , No . 3 on the list , vyas then discussed , Bro . BINCKES bringing it forward , because a report had got abroad that the mother of the boy had been left by her late husband comfortably off .

Bro . GLADWELL , P . M . 172 , was immensel y pleased that Bro . Binckes had mentioned the case , and he showed the brethren ; that after making full enquiries into the case the reports were entirely false . The case of Frank Alexander Herring , No . 55 , was also brought before the Court , a Masonic journal having staled that it was unworth y of support as the father ' s personal estate would produce some £ 500 for the boy .

Considerable discussion followed , in which Bros . Alpass , Grand Std . Br ., Godtschalk , Raynham \ V . Stewart , P . G . D ., and others took part . The motion was put to the vote when by 28 votes against 24 the Court decided the caseshould remain on the list as a fit and proper case for election . Bro . W . Roebuck's motion to add to law 65 the words " The two

Householders signing the bond , shall also undertake to remove the boy from the school at their own expense during the holidays sanctioned by the House Committee , in the event of the parents or relatives refusing to do so , " was withdrawn after a short discussion , in which Bros . Roebuck , the Rev . R . Morris , D . D ., Edgar Bowyer , J . H . Southwood , P . M . 1260 ; E . F . Storr , P . M . 22 , and others participated .

The brethren afterwards proceeded to elect 13 boys out of an approved list of 62 candidates . The ' result of the election was as follows :

The annual meeting of this province was held on Wednesday afternoon , nth inst ., in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall , Wakefield , under the banners of the Unity , Wakefield , and Sincerity Lodges , and was presided over by the Right Worshipful Prov . Grand Master , Sir Henry Edwards ,

Bart ., assisted by the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , Bro . T . W . Tew , and a large number of provincial oflicers .
