Bro . H . Halifax Wills was on Saturday last installed W . M . of the Mizpah Lodge , No . 1671 , at thc Albion Hotel , Aldersgate-street . On Friday last Bro . Sir Charles Dilke , M . P ., in the temporary absence at Windsor of the Home Secretary , received a deputation from the London District Board of the Amalgamated Union of Operative Bakers and Confectioners on the subject of the unsanitary condition of London Bakehouses .

Lord Alcester took the oath and his seat in the House of Lords on Thursday evening last . His lordship was formally introduced to the Lord Chancellor by Bro . Sir Albert VV . Woods , ( Garter ) G . D . of C , and accompanied to the table by Lords Haslech and Wolseley .

The Princess Louise and the Marquis of Lome left Boston , Mass ., for Ottawa , on Monday" ] the io * th inst ., and on their arrival the next day at the latter city were most cordially greeted by a large crowd , amongst whom were the ministers and other high functionaries .

Among those present at the complimentary dinner given by the officers of the Royal Marines at St . James ' s Hall , on Monday evening , to the Duke of Edinburgh as Honorary Colonel of that force , were the Prince of Wales , the Duke of Connaught , and the Duke

of Cambridge . The Queen and Princess Beatrice , attended by the ladies and gentlemen of the Court , left Windsor Castle for Osborne on Tuesday . It is expected her Majesty will remain in the Isle of Wight for about three weeks and then return to Windsor .

The Prince of Wales will attend the first Spring Meeting at Newmarket next week , leaving town on Tuesday in time Ior the races and returning on Friday afternoon . Once again there is a rumour that Bro . Santley , the great English baritone , has resolved on entering a monastery , it being said that he has joined the Passionist Fathers at Sulton , near St . Helen ' s , as a lay brother .

VVith reference to the article on the Hospital for Sick Children in Great Ormond-street , which appeared in our issue of the 7 th inst ., we have received the following letter from a lady : " As we want to launch into bricks and mortar it would be appropriate that the great building guild should help us . lt is a pity that those good old times are past when the master and his men worked at the Craft . departure . Under the altered title of " Forestry : a magazine for the country , " it will be enlarged in size and still further popularised . The May part will include a descriptive article by Mr . Richard Jefferies , entitled "The Contents of Ten Acres , " and "A Forgotten President of Agriculture , " by Mr . R . A . Kinglake .

The '* Owl' Glee Society gave their final concert for the season on Monday , the gth ult ., to a very large and distinguished audience . A well-selected programme was arranged for the delectation of the numerous ladies and gentlemen assembled , who were not wanting in their appreciation at the able ability displayed by the artistes , whose names for the season were Bros .
