The suggestion lor a Church offertory throughout the country on the nearest Sunday to the late Queen ' s birthday , which happens to be Whit-Sunday , will doubtless be largely adopted , and biing in a considerable sum of money , though the provincial cities and towns are
persisting in local memorials , which , if they take the form of statues or public buildings , ought to provide work for all the sculptors and architects who are making so loud an outcry at the limited competition arranged for the Nitional Msmorial . Bro . the Lord Mayor is working hard to promote the Mansion House Fund , assisted by his official staff who have such long and intimate experience in these matters . Lord Esher is an indefatigable hon . secretary of the movement .

It is also a point in favour of the " Smart Set , " in these days of overillustration , that its pages contain letterpress only .
THE FUND for the National Memorial to the Queen is coming in satisfactorily , nearly £ 70 , 000 having already been received , without reckoning the large amounts in course of collection on the Stock Exchange and among the Freemasons .
