Grace having been sung by the whole company , The toast of "His Majesty the King" which was presented by the President in loyal and patriotic terms , was enthusiastically received .

Comp . H . C . Turner next gave the toast of " Her Majesty Q ueen Alexandra and the Royal Family" in most appreciative terms . Comp . F . E . Pow proposed "The Health of the President" in an effective and eulogistic manner , and remarked upon the success that had attended his year and the kindliness of manner he had always evinced in his office . He asked the company to drink the toast in bumpers , which was accordingly done .

The President gave "The Health of the Ladies , " which , he said , was the second time the occasion had arisen in the chapter—the first during Comp . John Lightfoot ' s year—and he hoped that the same would become an institution in the chapter . It was always a pleasure to see them at such happy gatherings , and he trusted their presence would grace the festive board in the Selwyn Chapter for many succeeding years .

Comp . J . Lightfoot replied on behalf of the ladies in a very amusing and forcible manner , most heartily thanking the companions for their kind invitation to attend , and promising their acceptance of a similar one on the earliest possible occasion . The toast of "The Visitors" was most cordially presented by the President , who stated the extreme pleasure it gave the companions of the chapter in seeing so goodly an array . Bro . H . Wood , P . During the evening a beautifully-cut smelling salts was presented to each lady by the M . E . Z ., Comp . H . C . Turner , as a souvenir of the occasion , and was greatly admired . The company afterwards dispersed to the ball room to enjoy themselves to the strains of " Thorp ' s " Quadrille Band , till the early hours of the 13 th instant . Comps . J . Lightfoot and H . P . White were the very capable M . Cs ., and deserve the highest praise for their services .

An excellent programme of music was arranged by Comp . H . C . Turner , M . E . Z ., the dances being interspersed by the following music : Mandoline and piano , Mrs . F . Colls and Miss E . M . Turner , who performed " Limelight" and " When other lips " ( encored ); Miss Eugenie Faull , "II Bachio , " beautifully rendered and loudly encored , afterwards giving "Tell me , my heart ; " Bro . W . G . White gave "In the pale moonlight" in capital style ; Mr . F . W . Turner , "Come into the garden ,

Maud" and " The brow of the hill , " which were well received ; Miss Ethel May Turner , in a sweet and very clear manner , rendered " My dearest Heart" and "Tatters " excellently ; as a reciter , Comp . H . P . White proved himself very capable in the rendering of "A Hindoo Legend ; " the violin selections " Faust " and " H och Hapsburg " were performed beautifully by " Mr . A . Dawkins ; " also as a humorist , Mr . A . C . Turner proved himself very capable , singing " She ' s my wife " and " Framed in Oak . " Mr . T . VV . Partridge very ably accompanied .

The M . E . Z . is to be congratulated upon the very happy and thoroughly enjoyable evening , and also the Stewards , who were assiduous in their labours to carry them out most successfully .
