THE SCHOOL ELECTIONS .
The usual busy scene was witnessed in the large hall of Freemasons' Tavern on Thursday and Friday of last week when the spring elections of candidates to fill the vacancies that have occurred in our Scholastic Institutions during- the past six months took place . For
THE ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS there were 22 candidates , of whom seven remained on the list from last October , and 15 of these were elected . London , which furnished four candidates and had a part interest in three others , had the satisfaction of securing the election of all her own girls
and two out of the three in whose success she was only partialK concerned , while the others who obtained vacancies hailed from the Provinces . The London and Middlesex girl headed the poll with 6342 votes , the second in order being wholly London and
scoring 5733 votes . The Oxfordshire candidate came next with 5274 votes , and was closely followed by the Kentish girl , who received 51 S 2 . Another Loudon girl was placed liflh with 5114 votes , and was followed bv one . of the two girls from Hampshire
and the Isle of Wight , who was a candidate in October and scored a total of 5002 votes , of which 74 already stood to her credit . The Lincolnshire girl , who brought forward nine votes and who had only this chance left her of
"inning admission into the School , stood next with 4 ^ 47 votes , and was followed by a London girl with 4774 votes , and the Northants and Hunts girl with 40 ( 13 voles , the 'oth in order deriving her interest partly from West Yorkshire

who stood No . I on the list , and was unable to poll more than 313 votes , and of these 104 already stood to her credit from her four previous ballots . She will be 11 years of age in June , and consequently her name will be removed from the list .
As regards the general result , it is worth recording that five of the seven candidates remaining from October last were elected , and 10 of the 15 whose claims had since been approved . The total of the available votes was 86 , 8 4 6 , of which only 388
were brought forward and 10 added under Law 4 6 . But of the 86 , 44 8 votes issued for this election only 7 6 , 857 passed the Scrutineers , so that 9591 votes were either unused or spoiled-For the election of 23 children into

contributed six candidates of her own , and had a part interest in five others , while the remaining 26 derived their claim from the Provinces and Abroad . At this election London appears to have been unfortunate , and carried only two of its own cases
and two in which it was interested , the former being placed low down at Nos . 20 and 22 with 4538 and 4185 votes respectively , while , as regards the latter , the boy from London and Madras , who had already 1209 votes in hand , obtained the
second place with 575 8 votes , and the London and Lssex boy the 21 st place with 4532 votes . The Essex candidate headed the poll with 74 62 votes , the Cheshire lad standing third with 5720 votes , and the boy from Cambridgeshire , who started with
439 6 votes 111 hand , fourth , with 5519 votes . A boy with claims upon Nottinghamshire and West Lancashire secured the fifth vacancy with 5445 votes , thereby escaping the misfortune of having his name removed under Law 70 , and one of the three
