Bro . Dr . B . W . Richardson occupied the chair at a meeting held at the City and Colonial Club , Basinghallstreet , on the ioth inst ., for the purpose of receiving reports respecting a scheme proposed by Bro . D . Tallerman for an improved system of food preparation and distribution .

Steps are in contemplation with a view to celebrating the jubilee of the University of London . The idea emanated in the first instance from the brethren of the University of London Lodge , the VV . M . of which , Bro . Alderman Sir R . N . Fowler , Bart ., M . P ., as a graduate of the University , being very favourable to the idea being carried out . It is also believed that Bro . The Mansion House Committee of the I ^ ondon Unemployed Relief Fund met in the Venetian Parlour on Monday , under the presidency of Bro . the Lord Mayor , there being present , amonir others , Bros . Lord Charles Bruce , Alderman and Sheriff Evans , and Sheriff Clarke . The announcement by Bro . Lord Mayor Staples that her Majesty had sent a contribution to the fund of £ 500 was received with great cheering .

The annual supper of tlie Clapton Lodge of Instruction , N ' o . 1365 , was held on VVednesday evening , at Bro . Bargen ' s Restaurant , Wool Exchange , Coleman-street . Bro . John Welford , P . M ., with a visit to Welford and Sons' chief dairy , at Elgin-road , Maidavale , on Tuesday afternoon . On entering the establishment , Bro . Wclford ' s pretty little daughter , aged four years , presented the Princess with a beautiful basket of flowers , composed of maiden-hair ferns , snowdrops , and lilies of the valley . The Piincess was conducted through each department o ( the dairy by Bro . John Welford , the Marquis walking some

distance behind . In the butter-making room the party stayed a considerable time . The Princess tasted Ihe cream , and handed the glass to the Marquis to taste , saying , " Taste , it is delicious . " The cow sheds , stables , and workmen ' s dwellings were inspected . The Princess and Marquis complimented Bro . John Welford upon thc extreme cleanliness and perfect sanitary arrangements of the dairy .

We are glad to find that Bro . Alderman Waterlow has sufficiently recovered from his recent severe attack ol illness to be able to resume his magisterial duties in the City , he having taken his seat in the Guildhall justice-room on Monday , Tuesday , and following days .

The Grand Lodge of Quebec held its 16 th annual communication at the Masonic Chambers , Montreal , on Wednesday , the 27 th ult . Bro . Johnson , M . W . G . M ., presided , and over 300 Grand Officers and brethren were present . The proceedings extended over some time , and the business was not concluded till the following day .

P ., presided at the meeting held in Spring-gardens on the 12 th inst ., of the Royal Commission on Loss of Life at Sea . Bro . W . Pearce , M . P ., was among the members present .

Devon Masonic Educational Fund , the whole of the proceeds of which , will be devoted to that excellent Institution . This will make the seventh lecture delivered in Devon by Bro . Hughan , and at each meeting not less than five guineas have been obtained , thus giving each entertaining lodge Jive votes for twenty years .

Bro . Dr . B . W . Richardson occupied the chair at a meeting held at the City and Colonial Club , Basinghallstreet , on the ioth inst ., for the purpose of receiving reports respecting a scheme proposed by Bro . D . Tallerman for an improved system of food preparation and distribution .

Steps are in contemplation with a view to celebrating the jubilee of the University of London . The idea emanated in the first instance from the brethren of the University of London Lodge , the VV . M . of which , Bro . Alderman Sir R . N . Fowler , Bart ., M . P ., as a graduate of the University , being very favourable to the idea being carried out . It is also believed that Bro . Lord Herschell , Lord High Chancellor , who is also a graduate of London ,

might be induced to preside at the commemoration . The Mansion House Committee of the I ^ ondon Unemployed Relief Fund met in the Venetian Parlour on Monday , under the presidency of Bro . the Lord Mayor , there being present , amonir others , Bros . Lord Charles Bruce , Alderman and Sheriff Evans , and Sheriff Clarke . The announcement by Bro . Lord Mayor Staples that her Majesty had sent a contribution to the fund of £ 500 was received with great cheering .

Wclford ' s pretty little daughter , aged four years , presented the Princess with a beautiful basket of flowers , composed of maiden-hair ferns , snowdrops , and lilies of the valley . distance behind . In the butter-making room the party stayed a considerable time . The Princess tasted Ihe cream , and handed the glass to the Marquis to taste , saying , " Taste , it is delicious .
