The ceremony was performed by all the officers in a most impressive manner , and in such a style as to show that this new chapter is already making its mark , and will soon prove a valuable addition and an ornament to Royal Arch Freemasonry . The three principals presented a very

handsome Bible in Hebrew and English to the chapter , a gift which was much appreciated . After the transaction of other business the companions sat down to an excellent banquet , after which the loyal and Masonic toasts were duly proposed and responded to , and with some good singing and speeches a most enjoyable evening was brought to a conclusion . 1

METROPOLITAN CHAPTER OI- ' IMPROVEMENT ( No . 075 ) . —The usual meeting was held at the White Hart , corner ot Abchurch-lane and Cannon-street , EX ., on Tuesday , the 16 th inst . Present : Comps . Levey , Z . ; Notley , H . ; Wells , j . ; Jones , S . N . j Franks , P . S . ; and a Aery large number of members , including many distinguished exponents of the Ritual . The minutes of the last convocation were read and confirmed . The ceremony of exaltation was very beautifully rehearsed , Comp . Bentlev Haynes as candidate . It was announced that the ceremony of installation of Principals would be rehearsed on the second Tuesday in the mouths of March , April and May . Comp . Brown will ofliciate in March

, and the two remaining months will be open to any member of the chapter . We have no doubt there' will be large attendances on each occasion , as it is not often that members have the opportunity of rehearsing this necessary part of K . A . Freemasonry . The ceremony will commence at half-past live o ' clock , and will not interfere with 'he regular exaltation ceremony at half-past six o'clock . We are much pleased to find this chapter still retaining its popularity . It has many features to recommend it to all in search of knowledge ; tlie lirst and most important is good work . It has a most comfort , able room to meet in , and the work is over by eight o'clock , thus enabling all to reach home early .

LADIES' NIGHT AT THE RANELAGH LODGE , No . 834 .

One of the most successful and enjoyable meetings of the above lodge took place on Tuesday , the 19 th ult ., at the Criterion Restaurant , Piccadilly , W . The lodge was opened by Bro . Sims , VV . M . The special dispensation from Grand Lodge permitting the brethren to wear their Masonic

clothing and regalia was read by Bro . J . TUCK , Secretary . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren withdrew to the very handsome suite of rooms which Messrs . Spiers and Pond had placed at their disposal for the reception of the ladies , where a large number had already assembled . After some time had been spent in very pleasant conversation , the whole ofthe company adjourned to the Victoria Hall , where

the banquet was served in a style that reflected great credit upon the proprietors . After the toasts of "The Oueen and the Craft , " "The M . W . G . M ., " "The VV . M ., " "The Ladies , " and " The Visitors" had been loyally and heartily drank , and eloquently responded to , the brethren and ladies withdrew to the ball room , at the entrance of which each was presented

with a bottle of perfume , to which was attached a small silver souvenir as a memento of the occasion , which was greatly appreciated . Dancing commenced about nine o ' clock , and kept up with unflaging vigour , with one short interval , until four o ' clock a . m . The musical arrangements were under the direction of Bro . The lirst general meeting of the ' Cornwall Masonic Charity Association , " formed a few months since , was held at Truro on the ioth inst ., Bro . Thomas Chirgwin , P . P . G . S . VV ., in the chair . There was a large attendance of subscribers from the east and west of the province , most of the

lodges being represented officially or by personal subscribers . From Penzance to Torpoint—the two farthest points—there were brethren present , thus practically exhibiting the interest felt in the scheme . These all represent a guinea each subscription annually for five years . Those for lodges being two guineas annually for thesame term were then taken , with the following result : One each

for 330 , Bodmin ; 350 , Hayle ; 510 , Liskeard ; 1006 , St . Day ; and 1544 , Camborne . The financial statement was an agreeable surprise to many , considering the short time at the disposal of the Secretary to introduce the claims of the Association between its starting in September , 1 SS 5 , and the first general meeting ; 1 S 4 guineas were received as the first annual instalment , and 30 guineas for nominations fully paid up , so that

the total amounted to the large sum of ^ . 224 , or considerably over £ 1000 for the first five years , and doubtless there will yet be many more guineas received . Bro . PEARCE , the indefatigable Secretary , asked the subscribers to do their utmost to make the Association known , both in the lodges and chapters , several of which had not yet subscribed , and amongst the brethren , many of whom would surely be glad to join when they were

informed of the objects of its promoters , and the success which had attended the efforts of the members . Bro . Lieut . REED , R . N ., P . M . 75 , Prov . G . S . B ., proposed a vote of thanks to Bro . Pearce for his invaluable services as Secretary , organiser , and promoter of the Association , which , on being seconded most warmly by Bro . F . HARVEY , J . P ., P . M . 450 , P . P . G . S . W ., and supported by the PROV . G . SECRETARY and others , was most heartily

carried , as it well deserved to be , for beyond question the origin and prosperity of the " Cornwall Masonic Charity Association" is due to Bro . Pearce , who , however , feels amply repaid for his considerable labour and exertions in the great success that has crowned his well-directed and most zealous efforts . Bro . PEARCE responded , and again pressed the importance and value of the scheme on the attention of the Cornish Craft .

Annual Ladies' Night Of The Eccleston Lodge, No. 1624.

ANNUAL LADIES' NIGHT OF THE ECCLESTON LODGE , No . 1624 .

One meeting in the year is set apart in this lodge at which the ladies join the brethren at the banquet table . The two previous ladies' nights having been very successful , a large number of ladies and brethren assembled on tlie 17 th inst ., at the Criterion , in response to the invitation of the lodge . The W . M ., Bro . Coulthard , presided in his

usual efficient style , and a substantial repast was done ample justice to by about 200 . At its conclusion , the usual loyal and _ Masonic toasts were drunk ; but , as the company were anxious to adjourn to the ball room , the speeches were necessarily short . The I . P . M . proposed "The Health of the VV . M ., " and after eulogising the brother who occupied the chair , assured the ladies that they were deeply indebted to him for the

invitations they had received . He was confident that the health of the W . Master would be cordially received . The WORSHIPFUL MASTER expressed his sincere thanks for the reception of the toast , and hoped that the ladies and brethren present had enjoyed themselves . " The Ladies " was proposed in appropriate terms by Bro . BOTTLE , I . P . M ., who expressed the pleasure he felt at proposing this toast . In the name of the lodge he offered

the ladies a hearty welcome , and trusted they had spent a pleasant evening . Bro . C . TAYLER , P . M ., made an equally appropriate reply , and sincerely thanked the brethren for bringing the ladies on the present occasion . Other toasts having been duly honoured , the company adjourned , and a delightful programme of vocal music was gone through , under the direction of Bro . C . Lee , who was

assisted by Bro . Hellyar , Mr . Merry , Miss Louise Bond , and Miss Alice Patten . A dance followed , which was kept up with spirit until thc early hours of the morning , when the company dispersed after having spent a most enjoyable entertainment . The lodge may fairly congratulate itself on the result of the Third Annual Ladies' Night—for the indefatigable energies of the Stewards , and the excellency of the

arrangements , left nothing to be desired . It only remains to mention that thc band was under the efficient guidance of Bro . Kinkee .
