The charge was afterwards very ably delivered by the J . VV . Apologies for non-attendance were received from the Chaplain , the S . D ., and the W . M . of No . 253 . A sum of money was voted towards the cost of

hearty reception , as , under his genial rule , the time has passed so rapidly it scarcely seemed possible twelve months had passed since he was elected . He fully believed the success of the lodge was due to thc VV . M . and P . M . 's always showing the greatest interest in the lodge , and attending so well . manner the toast of his health had been received ; he wished he deserved half what had been said , but he certainly had done his " best to do the work well . Heshould never loose his interest in the lodge . The Worshipful Master then submitted the toast of "The VV . M . Elect , " which met with quite an ovation . He said , our esteemed Bro . Home had worked his way well from the

lower offices , and would , he was sure , do his work well , and fulfil all the duties of the chair in a proper , genial , and efficient manner . There never has been a more zealous officer , nor one who has had more the interests of the lodge at heart . Bro . W . J . Piper , S 02 , asked to be allowed to say a few words before the toast was drunk . He had always worked

shoulder to shoulder with Bro . Home , and now each would be VV . M . of their respective lodges in the same year , and he anticipated for his friend and brother , a most prosperous year , trusting each would do their utmost to visit one anothers lodge frequently . The toast was heartily received . The W . M . elect said , it was not given to all to demand success , but he would do his best to deserve it , and try in

all ways to make the year a happy and prosperous one . He should rely very strongly on the assistance of the Past Masters and brethren , and he trusted his efforts would justify the confidence they had placed in him . The Treasurer then proposed " The Initiate , " which he thought the most important toast , their newly-initiated brother was well known to some of them , and had not the

tongue of good report been heard in his favour , he would not have been tliere . He advised him to make a study of the ritual , as every symbol had a meaning , and everything in Masonry was good . Bro . Woollatt briefly thanked the VV . M . and brethren for receiving him . "The Past Masters" was the next toast . TheW . M . said no one knew better than him how much depended

upon the Past Masters , one and all had assisted him all they could , and through their help , his year had been rendered pleasant and prosperous . Bros . T . R . Gee and Sanderson suitably responded . Bro . S . T . Wright , P . M ., then proposed "The Visitors , " saying it was most unusual for them to have so few , but still they were very glad to have the highly esteemed VV . M .

of Ihe Repose Lodge , No . S 02 , present , they who saw him installed so recently , would well know the esteem in which he was held , as evidenced in the very large attendance on that night , he had worked well in his various offices , and gone steadily up . He particularly hoped that as many as could , would visit the Repose Lodge as often as possible . Bro . Piper , in response , said that before really saying

anything of his lodge , he should like , as it were , to welcome the coming , and speed the parting guest . He would be wanting in courtesy , when taking leave of his esteemed Bro . Copestick , if he did not bear testimony lo the efficient way he had performed all his duties during the year . He saw him installed , as far as allowed , and should hope to be able to be present at that of his successor . He could thank

them all for alluding to his lodge , and expressed a sincere hope that they would work well and harmoniously together . "The Officers" was proposed by Bro . J . Bland , P . M ., who paid all a high tribute of praise for their attendance and careful working . Bros . J . VV . Brigg , Secretary , and J . Walker , D . of C

suitably responded . The Tyler's toast shortly after closed a very enjoyable meeting . During the evening the following brethren by their singing greatly added to the pleasure of the brethren : Bros . J . W . Brigg , D . VV . H . Wright , W . J . Piper , VV . Forman , and F . G . Sanderson .

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

After the lodge had been opened in due form , and the minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed , Mr . M . Williams , who was balloted for and elected at the last meeting , was initiated into the mysteries and privileges of Freemasonry . The ceremony of installation was next gone on with , Bro . B . Taylor , P . M ., P . P . G . T ., occupying his old post of Installing Master . The VV . M . elect , Bro . J . M . Graham , was , after the usual preliminaries , presented to

the Installing Master , and subsequently inducted into the chair of K . S , as VV . M . for the ensuing 12 months . He was proclaimed to , and saluted by , the M . M . 'son their re-entry to the lodge , and next appointed his officers , who were invested byrBro . ' "' aylor , as follows : Bros . W . H . Malkin , S . W . j J . Sudren , J . W . j B . Taylor , P . M ., P . P . G . T ., Treas . ; J . Hooper , Secj J . L . Griffiths , S . D . j W . Southern . J . D . j J . West , I . C . j and VV . Riddell , Tyler .

The addresses were given in the usual capital manner heard in this lodge , and , there being no further business , " Hearty good wishes " were expressed by the numerous visitors , and the lodge was closed in peace and harmony . The Festival of St . John was subsequently celebrated in the banquet room , where a capital dinner had been prepared for the brethren by Bro . Phillips , who is so well known for his admirable catering at the Freemasons' Hall , Manchester . Many of our London brethren who are

celebrities in the Craft , and who occasionally visit Manchester , would , we feel sure , if required , bear testimony to the painstaking care which Bro . Phillips always exhibits when a larger repast than usual is being served , and also to the attention he pays to the smallest orde " r . After the usual preliminary loyal toasts , that of "Thc V . W . D . P . G . M ., Bro . G . Mellor , and the Provincal Grand Officers , Present and Past , " was proposed , and responded toby Bros . Alderman Jenkins , P . P . G . P .,- J . C Whittington , P . P . G . Organist East Lane j and D . Levenstein , P . P .

G . P . "The Health of the Initiate" was next proposed by Bro . D . Levenstein , and drunk with enthusiasm , after which Bro . M . Williams replied in suitable terms . "The Health of the W . M . " was proposed by Bro . J . H . Clarke , I . P . M ., in eulogistic terms , and was heartily drank , and responded to by Bro . Graham , who in the course of his remarks , after thanking Bro . Clarke for his kind

remarks and the brethren for so kindly responding , said he was very proud of his position as W . M . of the Harmony Lodge , and hoped that at the expiration of his year of office the title of the lodge would in every sense have proved a true one . He felt highly honoured by being elected to his present position—a position which , in his opinion , no unworthy person ought ever to occupy . He would ask as a favour , during his tenure of office , should

any brother have , or imagine he had , a grievance , to come boldly and state the grievance to him personally and privately , when he ( the W . M . ) felt sanguine it could be adjusted satisfactorily to both parties , as the success of a W . M . could be summed up in a few words , viz ., unity and good fellowship with the brethren of his lodge j and he assured them nothing should be wanting on his part to promote harmony and give satisfaction .

The W . M . proposed "The Health of thc I . P . M ., " who , he said , had been at once painstaking , hard working , diligent , and done his best to promote harmony and good feeling amongst the brethren . As a slight acknowledgment of his services , he ( Bro . Graham ) felt the greatest pleasure in presenting him , on behalf of the brethren , with a handsome P . M . 's gold jewel , and in so doing would convey to him the desire of all , that he might enjoy long life and

prosperity to wear it amongst them . 'The health of Bro . Clarke was heartily drunk with manifest enthusiasm , and the jewel was passed round for inspection and much admired , being a richly engraved square and problem , manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , 47 , Bridge-street , Manchester . Bro . Clarke , who seemed very pleased with the jewel , in returning thanks for the same , said if he had given

satisfaction to the brethren in the manner hc had performed his duties , that alone would be a source of pleasure ; at the same , time he should always regard the jewel they had given him with great pride . " 'The brethren would find when comparing the balance sheet with those presented the last few years , that it would compare very favourably indeed , particularly the items which showed the amount of subscriptions and donations given to the Masonic Charities .

In conclusion , he warmly thanked his officers for their able support , and trusted the Harmony Lodge would go on and prosper . Bro . J . Sudren , J . D ., proposed " 'The Health of thc Visitors " in eulogistic terms . 'The toast was well received , and responded to by several of their number . Bro . Alderman Jenkins , P . P . G . P ., proposed "The Health of the Installing Master , Bro . Bern . Tavlor : " and .

after thanking Bro . Griffiths for his kind invitation , referred to the pleasure it gave him to see many well-known faces that evening around the table . Respecting the Installing Master , he ( Bro . Jenkins ) said he could fearlessly state that no lodge , in his experience , possessed tho honour of ranking amongst its members so able a worker as Bro . 'Taylor . The lodge ought to be , as , no doubt , they were , proud of him , and the manner in which he had performed the installation that day left nothing to be desired , and could not bc excelled .

Bro . 1 aylor , in reply , after thanking Bro . Jenkins for his kind remarks , said he had performed the ceremony of installation no less thai ) lO times . He assured tbe brethren he felt a true pleasure in the work , and , in fact , of doing all and everything he could for the welfare of the lodge . He was the oldest P . M . of the lodge , and one of the founders , and it was only natural that his interest in it should be keen . He was delighted to find such good feeling existing amongst

the members , and hoped it would long continue , and that he himself might long be spared to lie of service to them . Several other toasts were proposed , including "The Masonic Charities , " "The Officers , " & c , & c 'The intervals between the toasts were enlivened with songs , recitations , & c , from Bros . 'Turner , Clarke , Oilier , Henllcy , Malkin , Hooper , and Lisenden . ¦ SWANSEA . —Talbot Lodge ( No . 1333 ) . —The

annual installation meeting of this lodge took place at the Masonic Rooms , Mackworth Hotel , on Wednesday , the 3 rd inst . There was a goodly attendance of the brethren , and the interesting proceedings of the installation passed off in the usual impressive and gratifying manner . The ceremony of installation was admirably performed by the fifteenth W . M ., Bro . R . Capper . The D . P . G . M . was present , and amongst those who attended wcre Bros . Robert Capper , W . M . j J . G . Hall , P . M . j G . Allen , P . M . ; R .

The charge was afterwards very ably delivered by the J . VV . Apologies for non-attendance were received from the Chaplain , the S . D ., and the W . M . of No . 253 . A sum of money was voted towards the cost of

tuning and repairing the grand piano ; and VV . Bro . G . T . Wright , P . M ., gave notice that at the next meeting , that a sum not exceeding five guineas be taken from the lodge funds for the purpose of providing a Past Master ' s jewel , to be presented to the retiring VV . Lodge of Derbyshire , " which was very heartily received , and suitably responded to by the Prov . G . S . W . and Treasurer . 'The Senior Warden then proposed "The Health of the VV . M ., " saying he was sure it would meet with a very

hearty reception , as , under his genial rule , the time has passed so rapidly it scarcely seemed possible twelve months had passed since he was elected . He fully believed the success of the lodge was due to thc VV . M . and P . M . 's always showing the greatest interest in the lodge , and attending so well . This having been heartily responded to by the brethren , the VV . M . said , he thanked all most cordially for the hearty

manner the toast of his health had been received ; he wished he deserved half what had been said , but he certainly had done his " best to do the work well .

M . j J . G . Hall , P . M . j G . Allen , P . M . ; R .
