It was unanimously resolved that a ladies' night be held in the autumn . In eloquent terms Bro . Arthur Briscoe called attention to the case of Mabel Smith , a candidate for the next Girls ' election , and he hoped the members would give it their
earnest support . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to an excellent banquet , which was well served under the personal superintendence of the manager , Mr . T . S . Morris . The W . M . gave the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , in brief but eloquent terms . In submitting the toast of "The Provincial Grand
Officers , Present and Past , " the W . M . made special reference to Bros . Briscoe and Branscombe , whose names he coupled with the toast . Bro . Arthur Briscoe , P . P . G . O ., responded . He said I hat the Grand Officers of the province had honoured the lodge by visiting it on two occasions , and although there were only iS collars to be given , yet the lodge had been fully recognised a . s an important one , by receiving two
collars for two years in succession . Bro . Branscombe , Prov . G . Org ., also replied , observing that it was the first time he had had to acknowledge the toast . He was very proud of his collar , and would do his best to carry out his duties as befitted the important Province of Surrey , Bro . Frederick Flood , LP . M ., in proposing "The Health of the W . commend the toast to the members . Bro . Taylor had jaid many things which were always for the good of the lodge and he would get , as he wanted , loyalty all round . He ( Bro . Flood ) had known the W . M . longer than anyone in the lodge and he was a splendid Mason and friend and he could not speak too well of him . He sincerely hoped that he would have as he deserved , a successful and happy year
of office , and he was more than certain that the lodge would prosper under his able Mastership . Bro . R . S . Taylor , on rising to respond , received quite an ovation . He said that the way he had been received made it difficult for him to say anything , and he wanted to say so much . He had looked forward with some anxiety
to that night . When he came into Masonry some years ago he did so with a great idea to be useful and he had endeavoured to carry that out . brotherly love , and that the same would be extended towards him . He belonged to a family who had been Freemasons from generation to generation , but when he was initiated he knew nothing , he did not know much now , but he hoped to get more knowledge , which , if he did , he would give it to the lodge . but the eve of a general holiday was the cause . He read rut their names with a kind word for each , but making special reference to Bro . Kelly , W . M . of an Irish lodge , whose name he coupled with the toast . Bro . Kelly responded . He said that it was his first visit to an English lodge , and he was very much struck with the great welcome the visitors had received . He was glad to
record that the Masons in old Ireland always received the toasts of the "Queen " and "The M . W . Grand Master " with acclamation , and that "God save the Queen , " and " God bless the Prince of Wales " were always sung at length . Bro . Wills also replied , observing that that was the 70 th meeting of the lodge since its consecration , and he had had
the good fortune to attend many of them . Bro . Rev . Flack also responded . He was glad to have been present , and he had very much enjoyed the excellent working of Bro . Flood . Tie W . M . gave "The Installing Master . " He said that it was an important toast , and it was to him a great pleasure to have the honour of submitting it . Bro . Flood
was a friend of many years' standing , and the members would not forget all the offices he had efficiently filled , and his rendering that night of the installation ceremony and the addresses was simply superb , and it would have been impossible to have been done better . He took that opportunity of presenting him with a Past Master ' s jewel as a small return for his great services to the lodge , and he
hoped that they would see it on his breast for many years to come . The inscription on the jewel was— " As a slight acknowledgment of his valuable services . " Bro . Flood replied in feeling terms . His difficulty was not to know what to say but to express what he felt . He had been treated with every kindness during his happy year of office , which he should never forget , and the
reception he had had promoted him to think that he had been a popular W . M ., and if he was correct in that he was gratified , and he should always honour the handsome jewel . The next toast was " The Past Masters , " who , the W . M . stated , had shown the good they had done for the lodge by their deeds . In responding liro . A . Briscoe said he did with some
regret , as he found he was the oldest member of the lodge present that evening , death and other causes being the reason why so many of the Past Masters were absent . " The Treasurer and Secretary" having been duly honoured and suitably responded to , The W . M . gave " The Musical Brethren , " whom , he saiddeserved the heartiest thanks for the grand
enter-, tainment they had provided that evening , to which Bros . G . Pownall and Dan Price responded in appropriate terms . In responding for "The Working Officers , " Bro . H . J . Macfarlane asserted that he and his colleagues would be loyal to the W . M ., and do their utmost to assist him and to promote the interests of the lodge in every way . The Tyler ' s toast brought to a close a very happy
meeting , and the W . M . is to be congratulated on the great success ot the gathering . The entertainments at this lodge are always of the very best , and it is a great musical treat to us when we attend . On this occasion an excellent programme was presented in which the following took part : Bros . Dan Price , Edward Branscombe , Rev . H . V . Tyrrel ( recitation ) , G . Pownall ,
Stahley Smith , and C . Kelly who is Vicar Choral of St . Patrick ' s and Christ Church Cathedrals , Dublin , and whose efforts were greatly appreciated . Bros .
