to hax * e his memory perpetuated in the lodge in so unique and generous a manner . Bro . Wilton concluded by expressing an opinion that the course pursed by Bro . White , xvhich xvould havc much inlluence on the future career of thc lodge , demanded much more than a hasty and bald vote of thanks to him . lie therefore proposed that the VV . M ., Wardens , Treasurer , ami Secretary form a committee to consider the best mode to be adopted by the lodge for thc reception and
acknowledgment of the considerate gifts . It was seconded by the W . M ., provided that thc Mayor xx-ould join the committee . With this addition thc resolution xvas carried . 'The business of the evening xvas brought to a close by a vote of thanks to thc VV . Ms . of Nos . 53 and 906 for their attendance , and to the mcmbcrsxvho had accompanied them .
In this xvas included the name of the brother visitor , xvho is a P . M . of No . 10 . Bro . Palmer acknoxvledged the compliment to himself , and Bro . VV . F . Collins on behalf of the Royal Sussex Lodge , both expressing their gratification at having heard the document received from Bro . White . The lodge xvas finally closed at half-past nine o ' clock .

xvell axvate uf the great interest he took in Fieemasonry . Nearly 20 years ago he xvas the W . M . of that lodge , and he again gave his valuable assistance by accepting thc office of VV . M . last year , and they all knexv how well and ably he filled that chair . He ( the VV . M . ) did not think that the Worshipful Prov . Grand Master , the Earl of Hardivicke , could have found a brother in that province xvho xvould have been able to fulfil thc duties of Deputy better than Bro . J .
Neal York , P . M . He xvas sure it xvas an appointment xvhich xvas received with satisfaction by the xvhole province . 'They had a proof of that in the great number of brethren xvho had attended at his induction at Wisbech , and the hearty reception lie received . The W . AI . then said : Bro . P . M . York , I noxv present to you a Deputy Provincial Grand Master's jexvel , in appreciation of your valuable and longcontinued services to thc Craft . May you long be spared
to xvear it and come amongst us . The Deputy Prov . Grand Master in responding thanked the brethren of the old Scientific for their handsome present . Honours had recently been heaped upon him , and this xvas an additional honour xvhich he felt most deeply . He xvas exceedingly pleased to find that his appointment had given satisfaction in the province , and it xvas most
gratifying to knoxv that his elevation had caused no jealousy . He could easily understand this , because the brethren ot the province xvere—in the xvords of the installation ceremony—of too generous a disposition to envy his preferment . of "The Prov . Grand Master and his Deputy , " and the D . P . G . M . said he had great pleasure in responding . If the Prov . Grand Master xvere present he xvould respond more fluently , but could not say more than he ( Bro . York ) felt , lie felt it to be a great kindness that they had received the toast so cordially , and on behalf of the P . G . M . and himself he thanked them . He likexvise thanked the
brethren of thc lodge for the high honour they had done him in presenting him xvith that very handsome jexvel . He xvas not axx-are xvhen he received it in lodge xvhat a handsome jexvel it was . He thanked them also for the manner in xvhich the presentation had been made . Since he had been in high position in the province he had attended the Sir Isaac Ncivton ( University ) Lodge , and had been received there xvith the same cordiality as he had met xvith in his
oxvn lodge , and he had felt very strongly throughout the xvhole of his preliminary introductions as D . P . G . M . the kindly feelings xvhich had been displayed toxvards him . It xvas much more than he expected . " He only hoped that his principal and himself might be able to maintain their good esteem . During the proceedings the W . thc affairs of the province ; as to Bro . the Rev . C J . Martyn , he xvas sure that if a Mason xvent into any province , the mention of his name caused a thrill in every heart . They xvelcomed him there , and rejoiced to sec him in better health . 'They had xvith them Bro . Tracy , the nexv Secretary of the province , xvho xvas throxving an amount of energy and spirit into his xvork xvhich entitled him to great
credit and their thanks . The Deputy Prov . G . M . responded , and expressed the great pleasure he felt in the success of thc Stexvards to the Charities ; the province was noxv subscribing a good amount , and only last xveek Bro . J . M . Harvey took up to the festival dinner 200 guineas as a contribution from Suffolk . Bro . 'Tracy also responded .
" The Masonic Charities" xvas responded to by Bro . Harvey , xvho made an urgent appeal . His list required 15 guineas to bring it up to 200 guineas , and he hoped he should receive some further subscriptions . Bro . 'Terry also responded , dealing xvith the subscriptions from Suffolk , and appealed for continued support . The Deputy Prov . G . M ., in civinrr the toast of " The
VV . M ., " mentioned the excellent manner in which the nexvly-installed VV . M . had carried out his xvork in the lodge as if to the manner born . The VV . M . responded , and " 'The Deputy Provincial Grand Marster , " "The Installing Master , " "The Secretary , " and other toasts followed .
The VVorshi p ful Master , in the course of the evening , announced his intention of contributing five guineas to Bro . Harvey ' s list for the funds of the Benevolent Institution , and four other members of the lodge contributed txvo and a half guineas each , thus making up the desired contribution of 200 guineas from the province .

After supper the customary toasts were honoured . Thc toast of "Bro . Lord Holmesdale , P . G . M . Kent , " having been given , that of " Bro . Eastes , D . P . G . M . Kent , and the rest of the Provincial Grand Officers " followed , and xvas coupled with the name of Bro . Coupland , xvho in response expressed his gratitude to the brethren for the cordial manner in xvhich they at all times received the name of their
Prov . G . M . and the Grand Officers . He xvas very pleased to say that the subscribers to the late testimonial presented to his lordship xvould noxv have an excellent likeness of his lordship in their oxvn homes , and it xvas xvith feelings or pride he mentioned that the Pattison Lodge and chaptef subscribed the largest amounts to the testimonial of any lodge or chapter in the province . Sixty-six copies had
been received and distributed that night , and he felt sure they xvould agree xvith him that the presentation of his portrait to every subscriber to the fund xvas a kind and gracious act on the part of their esteemed and beloved Prov . Grand Master , to xvhom he xvished thc blessings of health and happiness for many years to come . Bro . Lloyd , in the absence of the I . P . M ., proposed "The
Health of the VV . M . " Bro . Edmonds acknoxvledged the brethren ' s kindness , and then gave "Thc Initiate , " xvho having returned thanks , "The Visitors" xvcre saluted with a hearty fire , and Bros . Roberts , Watkins , and Fisher returned thanks . The T yler ' s toast concluded the
proceedings , xvhich xvere enlivened by some fine singing . VVe must not close this brief report xvithout expressing our admiration of the musical arrangements carried out by Bro . White , his kindliness of heart , his unabated love for thc Order , after having belonged so it for almost 50 years , ( only one being xvantingtocomplete that period ) , his desire
to hax * e his memory perpetuated in the lodge in so unique and generous a manner . Bro . Wilton concluded by expressing an opinion that the course pursed by Bro . White , xvhich xvould havc much inlluence on the future career of thc lodge , demanded much more than a hasty and bald vote of thanks to him . lie therefore proposed that the VV . M ., Wardens , Treasurer , ami Secretary form a committee to consider the best mode to be adopted by the lodge for thc reception and

Coupland , xvho in response expressed his gratitude to the brethren for the cordial manner in xvhich they at all times received the name of their
Prov . G . M . and the Grand Officers . He xvas very pleased to say that the subscribers to the late testimonial presented to his lordship xvould noxv have an excellent likeness of his lordship in their oxvn homes , and it xvas xvith feelings or pride he mentioned that the Pattison Lodge and chaptef subscribed the largest amounts to the testimonial of any lodge or chapter in the province . Sixty-six copies had
been received and distributed that night , and he felt sure they xvould agree xvith him that the presentation of his portrait to every subscriber to the fund xvas a kind and gracious act on the part of their esteemed and beloved Prov . Grand Master , to xvhom he xvished thc blessings of health and happiness for many years to come . Bro . Lloyd , in the absence of the I . P . M ., proposed "The
