THE GIRLS' SCHOOL FESTIVAL .
All doubts as to the result of the 11 ith Anniversary Festival in behalf of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , to which we have been all so anxiou sly and at the same time hopefully looking * forward for some months past , have been at length set
at rest . The event was celebrated in the great hall of the Freemasons' Tavern on Wednesday , under the presidency of R . W . Bro . Viscount DLWC . ARVAX , Prov . G . Master of Somersetshire . There was a larger attendance than usual of Stewards
and ladies in support of his Lordship , and in the course of the proceedings Bro . F . R . XV . HEDGES , Secretary , had the satisfaction of announcing that the Board of Stewards , consisting of 547 ladies and brethren , had succeeded in compiling a grand total
ol donations and subscriptions amounting to upwards of ^ 21 , 045 , towards which London , represented by 265 Stewards , contributed / , IO , <) CJI , and the Provinces and Foreign Stations , with 2 S 2 Stewards , £ 10 , 05 . 1 . The details of ( his splendid result , together
with our customary "Analysis ofthe Returns , " will be found elsewhere , and therefore we content ourselves here bv offering our hearty congratulations lo the Chairman , whose second experience as a Masonic Festival President has proved so gratifying ; to
his lordshi p ' s Province of Somersetshire which rendered him such loyal assistance ; lo the Stewards generally , whose efforts have resulted in the . 'iceumiilation oi so large a total ; and lastl y to the Institution itself and its respected Secretary , the former
because it has been so greatly strengthened by this result , and the latter because his labours , not less than his anxieties , have been very heavy during the past year , and it must be a source ol pleasure to him to lind that those labours have not been in vain , while his anxieties for thc present are at rest .

't is with the greatest pleasure that wc call attention to a movement which has just been started with a view to presenting Uro . R . CLAY SUDLOW , P . G . Std . Bearer , with a testimonial in
recognition of the services he has rendered " to the cause of ¦ recmasonry in general , and in connection with the Emulation Lod ge of Improvement in particular . " It is over 20 years since

he became a member of that lodge , and not only can it be said of him that during the whole of that period he - 'has rarely been absent from its weekly meetings , " but so marked were the abilities he exhibited as an interpreter of our Ritual that it was not loner before he was elected a member of the Committee of
the lodge , and it became evident that hc would prove " a competent and worthy successor to such brethren in Freemasonry as the late Bro . STEPHEN BARTON WILSON and THOMAS FENN . On the retirement of the latter Bro . SUDLOW "became
responsible for the maintenance of the system of Masonic Ritual handed down by his predecessors , " and the successful manner in which hc has fulfilled the trust reposed in him has won for him golden opinions from all who can appreciate the splendid work
that is done by our principal , or perhaps it would be more correct to say , our one and only quasi-official School of Masonic Instruction . There is thus no doubt as to the well ni gh infinite merit of the service that has been and is being rendered by
Bro . SUDLOW in inculcating in the minds of old and new members alike of our Order a knowledge of the Ritual according to Emulation working , and we are glad to hear that the projected testimonial has already met with the approval and support of
all to whom it has been mentioned and that a strong and influential Committee has already been formed for the purpose of giving effect to thc scheme , with Bro . W . G . KENTISH , Past G . Std . Bearer , and a member of the Committee of the
Emulation Lodge of Improvement , as Hon . Secretary , while among its members are to be found such leading lights as Bro . W . W . B . BEACH , M . P ., Prov . G . Master of Hants and the Jsle of Wight ; Bros . Sir JOHN B . MONCKTON and ROBERT GREY , Past G .

dtitivsof Hon . Treasurer have been kindly undertaken by Bro . E . LKTCHWORTH , F . C . S ., G . Secretary . As for ourselves we shall but too willingly render all the assistance in our power in order
to ensure success to so praiseworthy an object , and to that end our columns will be al the service of the Committee at any time and for any purpose they may consider necessary or desirable .
