This was only what was expected from him by the members of the lodge , who have profited bv his scholarly

rendering of the ritual during his year of office , and Bro . Rimbault is to be heartily congratulated upon the manner in which he laid the finishing touch to a splendid year's working . The W . the art as Bro . Hills , P . M ., it can readily be seen that a W . M . of the Ivy Lodge has no light task to perform if he wishes even to peg level . The remainder of the business having been disposed of , the W . M . closed the lodge , and the brethren adjourned to the banqueting room , where it was quickly seen that the catering department of the Surrey Masonic Hall ( under the kindly supervision of Mrs . The most notable of the later events of the evening were the magnificent receptions accorded to the W . M . and the l . P . Walter Coward ( a gentleman-ftf his Majesty ' s Chapel Royal ) , Charles Ackerman ( also a gentleman of the Chapel Royal and of Westminster Abbey ) , Samuel Masters , who also sang most effectively the solo " Be thou faithful unto death " during the installation of the W . The W . M ., in presenting the toast of "The Grand Officers , " drew the attention of the brethren to the presence of Bro . E . C . Mulvey , P . M ., P . G . P . Eng . In responding , Bro . Mulvey expressed the great pleasure indeed that it gave him to be present , and remarked that since his previous visit the work of the lodge showed commendable improvement . As Installing Master Bro . Luke had carried out the work

of the evening m a very beautiful manner , and he felt sure , from the evidence given by Bro . Baker on his assumption of the chair , that he would prove an -qually cipible successor . He desired also to specially allude to the manner in which ths acting D . C , Bro . J . F . Beck , P . M ., had added to the success of the ceremony in carrying out his duties , and expressed the assurance that the W . M . was generally supported by otfi ; ers whose efficiency would render his year of office eminently satisfactory .

Bro . Luke , I . P . M ., then proposed " The Health of the W . M . " He stated that the brethren , in electing Bro . Baker to the chair , had cnosen a biother with 1 vecf high sense of the responsibility of the position , and who might be relied upon to maintain the best traditions of the office . It was no virtue to know the future , but one of the greatest virtues to be prepared for it . Bro . Baker , from the time of his adnission into Freemasonry , had been an earnest student of the art , had . vorked actively in loije of instruction , and the Caxton Lodge would undoubtedly benefit by his past exertions .

He had occupied the junior offices with distinction , and the prospect was that he would prove to be one of the best Masters the lodge had known . To this end it was essential that he should not only have the support of his officers , but of the members of the lodge generally , there being every promise of a busy term of office . In replying Bro . Baker gratefully acknowledged the enthusiastic reception accorded to the toast . He was exceedingly proud to have attained the position of Master in his mother lodge , would do his utmost to make his period of otli-e a success , and relied upon the brethren to co-operate with him in every possible way .

The W . M . next proposed the toast of " The I . P . M ., " and in presenting him , on behalf of the lodge , with the Past Master ' s jewel , stated that he felt the brethren were justified in bestowing the compliment . He had been associated . viti Bro . Luke for many years in Freemasonry , having been initiated at the same time , and hal onie in following him step by step throughout his Masonic career . He also made mention of Bro . Luke ' s connection with the Caxton Lodge of Instruction as Assistant Precep : or .

Bro . Luke , I . P . M ., responded , remarking that for certain reasons the past year had not been a particularly fortunate one for him as Master . He , however , had no regrets , seeing that the brethren had given him such proofs of their esteem and appreciation . The toast of "The Initiate" was submitted by the W . M ., and Bro . Foreman responded in suitable terms .

The next toast submitted was that of "The Past Masters . " The W . M ., in eloquent terms , referred to the debt of gratitude which is at all times due to those brethren who have passed the chair , and specially alluded to the fact that , although 21 years had passed since the consecration of the lodge , the brethren could still command the experience and wisdom of three of its founders in the persons of Bro . Dawson , Beck , and Cole .

Bro . Brian Wynne , P . M ., in responding , stated that although not an actual founder , he associated himself with the earliest history of the lodge , having been initiated at its first regular meeting . He feelingly alluded to the valuable services rendered by Bro . Cole , as Treasurer of the lodge since its inception . The W . M . next cordially proposed the toast of " The Visitors , " extending to them a hearty welcome . The toast was responded to by Bros . T . Kelly , W . M . 16 S 1 , and Cawley , P . M . 172 .

The toast of "The Officers" was presented by the W . M ., who stated that he felt sure those brethren whom he had selected for preferment would in themselves justify his choice . Bros . A . Woods , S . W ., and Rice , J . W ., responded in suitable terms . In the course of the evening a most delightful programme of music was rendered under the able direction of Bro . G . A . Proust , Org ., the part singing of the Alexandra Quartette and the ' cello solos by Mr . F . E . Ivimey being much appreciated . Bro . Will Edwards , in the humorous department , was exceedingly diverting . The Tyler's toast brought an eventful and enjoyable evening to a close .

Bisley Lodge , No . 2317 . The regular meeting of this lodge was held at the Masonic Hall , Woking , on Thursday , the 4 th instant , when there were present : Bros . H . A . Wnitburn , VV . M . ; C . F . Waters , S . W . ; J . B . S . Lancaster , P . M .. Sec ; J . B . vValker , S . D . : J . E . O'Connor , J . D . ; J . Tomlinson , P . M ., D . C . ; ri . W . Gloster , I . G . ; and R . F . Gould , P . G . D . ( Hon . Member ) . Bro . F . W . Wilkins was a visitor .

the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The report of a Committee appointed to consider the feasibility ot having a " ladies' night" was received and adopted . Two brethren were proposed as joining members , after which , there being no further business , the lodge was closed . The brethren subsequently dined together .

Hortus Lodge , No . 2469 . INSTALLATION OF BRO . GEORGE H . MAYCOCK . The installation meeting of the Hortus Lodge , No . 2469 , took place at Freemasons ' Tavern on Tuesday , the 2 nd instant , when , in the presence of some 50 members of the

The installation banquet took place in the Crown Room , where a superb mass of decoration had been provided by Bro . Maycock . The tables were entirely bedecked with daffodils , many thousands of blooms being employed , while there was a tracery of smilax . The arrangement was greatly admired . The customary toasts were honoured , and during the evening a capital programme of music was carried out , under the direction of Bro . VV . Windsor , Org . Songs and duets were sung by Misses Ethel and Alice Williams , and Br ^ s . Wilson Bember and VV . H . Webb , while quartettes were given by the Excelsior Vocal Quartette . A very pleasant evening was spent .
