The ceremony of raising was also rehearsed . Bro . Smith , leaving the chair of S . W ., offered himself to be the candidate for the Third Degree , which ceremony was worked in a very pleasintr and profitable manner , as , indeed , each Degree was

worked to the satisfaction of the lodge in particular . I his odge may be congratulated upon its success in the new quarters , and , being much encouraged by the earnestness of the working endcavoursof the brethren , we look forward to its former prosperity . association should be established in connection with thc lodge , and the matter was further postponed . Bro . Alfred Jones , 1949 , was unanimously elected a joining member . Bro . R . Poore was unanimously elected VV . M . for the ensuing week , and he appointed his ofiicers in rotation . It was decided that the first festival of the lodge should be held on the third Tuesday in January next , and a Committee was appointed to make the necessary

arrangements . On the motion of Bro . Williams , the Secretary , a cordial vote of thanks was passed to Bro . S . Richardson , the W . M ., for his able conduct of the ceremony and work of the evening for the first time in his Masonic career . The resolution to be recorded on the minutes . Lodge was closed in due form and adjourned in perfect harmony until the following Tuesday evening .

Stevens to the assembled brethren , and for a little more than two hours the lecturei kept his audience thoroughly interested , making his lecture more attractive by an able recital of the several ceremonies in full , with

most pertinent remarks on the numerous divergencies which have of late years crept into the ritual . On the whole , the hearers were in full accord with the remarks of the lecturer . On one or two points very interesting observations were made by intelligent brethren , with the result of enlightening the minds of many present , and enabling them to understand points and practices which they had not up to that the conclu

time fully comprehended the importance of . At - sion of the lecture , Bro . Stevens was greeted with much applause ; and the thanks of the lodge of instruction were cordially voted , in slight acknowlegment of his services . The W . M . expressed his gratification to find that the working of the Masonic ceremonial at Brighton agreed so nearly with that which had been set forth by the lecturer .

He considered that thc lecture should be heard far and wide ; by some lodges for the purpose of correcting many existing fallacies , and by others that the members might be confirmed , as in their own case , in the correctness of their mode of working . Bro . Stevens in acknowledging- thc compliment , stated that the invite the lodge had made and the reception they accorded him , were ample rewards for any service he had

rendered ; and his object being to receive , and as far as in his humble power lay to give Alasonic instruction , he should be prepared on reasonable notice , to repeat his evenings work in any other lodge , provincial or metropolitan . The lodge was then closed , and a most agreeable and instructive evening was terminated by a brief entertainment in the way of refreshments , at the usual meeting room of the lodge of instruction , at Bro . Paige ' s , the Unicorn Hotel , Noith-street .

distinctions , or in any way to particularise ; but it may be said with truth and justice that the King Harold Lodge of Instruction , by the perfect working of the Sections , afforded to the brethren present on Thursday evening a most genuine Masonic treat . The gallant colonel returned thanks for the compliment , and expressed his satisfaction at thc opportunity afforded him of being present at the workingof the ceremony , since he had thus obtained valuable information and useful hints , of which he should avail himself in his own lodge . Bro . L . Howes proposed a candidate for advat . cement , and no other business offering , the lodge was closed .

others . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken upon behalf of Bros . N . D . I ' racis , Hiram Lodge , No . 13 , and Acland , Panmure Lodge , No . 139 , and it proving to be unanimous , they were duly admitted , and received into the Degrees of M . E . M ., R . M ., S .
