THE PROV . GRAND MARK LODGE OF LANCASHIRE will hold its annual meeting at Todmorden on the 2 nd prox . BRO . DE VERE HUNT , of Cardiff , has been suffering from a severe attack of pleurisy , but is now making satisfactory progress towards recovery . OCTOBER IST is officially fixed for the unveiling at the Alexandra Palace of the beautiful statue of the late Oueen Victoria presented to the trustees by the sculptor Mr . Onslow Ford . The statue is 30 feet high . '

THE MANY FRIENDS of the popular host of the'Fleur-de-L ^ s Hotel , Canter , bury , Bro . Horatio Ward , P . M ., P . D . G . S . B ., will be pleased to hear that he is making fair , though slow , progress towards convalescence . AT A MEETING of a Masonic lodge , held last June in Rangiora , Canterbury Province , New Zealand , an interesting episode , o' a niture some what rare in Masonry , took place , when Bro . Blackett , P . M ., initiated his own father as an E . A . Freemason .

MR . WILLIAM TALLACK , who has acted as secretary of the Howard Association for 35 years , has tendered his resignation of that office ; and the committee have appointed Mr . Edward Grubb , M . A ., of Croydon , to succeed him at the end of this year . ENGLISH TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA .-It is stated that A . C . MacLaren has received a favourable reply from C . McGahey , who will accompany the combination to Australia at the end of the month . The party will probably be increased to 14 , and W . M . Bradley , it is thought , will complete the side .

BRO . EARL EGERTON OF TATTON , Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire , will , on Sunday , at Chester , distribute medals to the 21 st and 22 nd Companies Imperial Yeomanry , which served in South Africa under Lord Arthur Grosvenor and Major Moseley Leigh . Piior to the ceremony the troops will attend divine service . in Chester Cathedral .

ART IN THE CITY . —The exhibition of works of Spanish artists , which was opened by Bro . the Lord Mayor on May 1 st , closed on the 28 th ult . with a record attendance , namely , 305 , 15 c ) . The exhibition of Dutch and British artists in 1 S 94 was attended by 300 , 3 0 c persont . The value of the pictures which have been on exhibition was nearly half a million sterling .

OWING to the decision to abandon the use of carrier pigeons in the Army , the entire military flying loft from Aldershot is to be put up for sale at Stevens ' s Auction Rooms next Tuesday . There are 94 lots , among them being some noted strains much sought after by fanciers . In addition , 10 birds bred at Sandringham , and presented by his Majesty to the military loft , are to be included in the sale for the benefit of a military chaiity .

ON THE 4 th instant Ihe inquiry into the circumstances attending the death of Bro . W . W . B . Beach , M . P ., was concluded at the Westminster Coroner ' s Court . The jury returned a verdict that the deceased met his death as the result of a trench in Parliament-street being improperly filled up or levelled down ; and they added a rider that , though there had been no criminal neglect , there ought to have been some personal supervision on the part of the Westminster City Council .

PRINCESS HENRY OF BATTENBERG has signified her intention to present the South African war medals to the Isle of Wight troopers of the 41 st Company Imperial Yeoma . iry . who served at the front for 15 months , under the command of Major John Seely , M . P ., and also to the active service section of Princess Beatrice's Own Isle of Wight Rifle Volunteers . This interesting function will take place on the bowling-green of Carisbrooke Castle on Thursday afternoon next .

CRYSTAL PALACE . —The Brass Band Contest for the National Challenge Trophy will take place at the Crystal Palace on the 28 th inst . Over 100 bands have sent in spplicalion to compete , but only 25 will be allowed to play , among them soma of the best bands of Lancashire , Yorkshire , and ths Midlands . Arrangement * have bsen completed to exhibit the trophy in the districts fro .-n which bands have entered . Special excursion trains will run from all the northern towns to the Crystal Palace .

BRO . DR . F . A . BARTON , whose name has been so prominently before the public as the inventor of an air-ship now being tested by Governmen' experts , has for some years practised at Beckenham . In the midst of his busy professional life he has devoted considerable attention to aeronautics . He is young and genial , and extremely popular amongst his neighbouis . He is the Past Master of the local lodge of Freemasons . The dector , in his neat little motor car , is a familiar figure in the Beckenham district . A syndicate of leading aeronaut ! : experts is associated with Bro . Dr . Barton

B ., will be pleased to hear that he is making fair , though slow , progress towards convalescence . AT A MEETING of a Masonic lodge , held last June in Rangiora , Canterbury Province , New Zealand , an interesting episode , o' a niture some what rare in Masonry , took place , when Bro . MR . WILLIAM TALLACK , who has acted as secretary of the Howard Association for 35 years , has tendered his resignation of that office ; and the committee have appointed Mr . Edward Grubb , M . OWING to the decision to abandon the use of carrier pigeons in the Army , the entire military flying loft from Aldershot is to be put up for sale at Stevens ' s Auction Rooms next Tuesday . There are 94 lots , among them being some noted strains much sought after by fanciers . In addition , 10 birds bred at Sandringham , and presented by his Majesty to the military loft , are to be included in the sale for the benefit of a military chaiity .

ON THE 4 th instant Ihe inquiry into the circumstances attending the death of Bro . W . W . B . Beach , M . P ., was concluded at the Westminster Coroner ' s Court . The jury returned a verdict that the deceased met his death as the result of a trench in Parliament-street being improperly filled up or levelled down ; and they added a rider that , though there had been no criminal neglect , there ought to have been some personal supervision on the part of the Westminster City Council .

PRINCESS HENRY OF BATTENBERG has signified her intention to present the South African war medals to the Isle of Wight troopers of the 41 st Company Imperial Yeoma . iry . who served at the front for 15 months , under the command of Major John Seely , M . P ., and also to the active service section of Princess Beatrice's Own Isle of Wight Rifle Volunteers . This interesting function will take place on the bowling-green of Carisbrooke Castle on Thursday afternoon next .

CRYSTAL PALACE . —The Brass Band Contest for the National Challenge Trophy will take place at the Crystal Palace on the 28 th inst . Over 100 bands have sent in spplicalion to compete , but only 25 will be allowed to play , among them soma of the best bands of Lancashire , Yorkshire , and ths Midlands .
