It would be long before his friends would ever forget him , and long before they ceased to forget his memory . Their business that day was to proceed ( o the installation of the new Prov . G . Master who had been appointed to succeed Sir Hedworth Williamson . The arrival of the Prov . G , Master designate having b ** en announced ,

The installation ceremony having been ably performed by the Pro G . Master , and the installation duly proclaimed by the Prov . Grand Director of Ceremonies , Bro . C . T . Johnson , the newly-installed Prov . G . Master proceeded to appoint and invest the Dep . Prov . G . Master . There could not , his lordship said , of course , bs any possible doubt as to who shiuld hold that office , and without any further demur he would ask the Rev .
Canon Tristram to accept it . Bro . Canon Tristram had been Dep . Grand Master since 1 SS 5 , and fie had great pleasure in affirming his appointment . He trusted that the relations which existed between Canon Tristram and the late Prov . G . Master would be equally cordial between Canon Tristram and himself ( Lord Barnard ) , and equally for the benefit of Freemasonry . ( App lause . ) Lord BARNARD afterwards briefly addressed the meeting . He said that of
in rising on that , the first occasion after his installation in ^ he office Prov . Grand Master of that province , to address a few words to them in the presence of many most distinguished Masons and brethren of the Grand Lodge and the Grand Lodges of neighbouring provinces , he would not , in consequence of the length of the proceedings , and also owing to the fact that in the course of a few months he should have the opportunity of
addressing them at the annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge , detain them for many minutes . At the same time , he felt sure that all of them , in true obedience to Masonic precept , would sympathise heartily with him in the great diffidence with which he approached the duties and responsibilities of the oflice . He could assure them that no effort of his should be wanting to do all he could for Freemasonry in that province and throughout the kingdom . Of course , the very object of the oflice was that
there might be some local controlling authority to consider and settle differences and dilliculties which inevitably must bring one from time to time into conflict with the opinion of other brethren . He felt sure , however , that he should have their co-operation . He knew it was so in the past in the time of his revered and respected predecessor , and he felt certain it wouid be so in the future . He trusted that as long as he held that office , so long would he peiform the duties of the same to the credit of the province and himself . ( Applause . )
The following noblemen and brethren were unable to be present at the ceremony on the 26 th ult ., for various reasons , and wrote expressing their regret : Bros . Maiquis of Zetland , K . T ., P .
