To the Editor of the " Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother ,

Allow me to enter a fraternal protest against the suggestion of Bro . Turner ' s in the Freemason of the 20 th ult . 1 fail to see any need of a revision of the lodge numbers when it is remembered what such a process involves . Many brethren have as much fondness for the numbers as for the names of their lodges , and the change advocated

would not only move up the numbers of all lodges from say iS to 2040 , but lead to a considerable expenditure in the then needful alteration of lodge furniture , banners , & c . A change was made in lodge numeration so late as 1863 , the previous alteration having been made in 18 , 32 , thus some thirty-one years had passed in the interim . It is now but t ' . aentv- ( ine vears since the numeration of 1 S 6 . 1 . and for mv

part ( and I believe many think with me ) it will be well to wait until next century before another change is made . There have been no numerical alterations in the lists of Grand Lodge of Scotland since 1 S 3 G , and none in Ireland for this century at least . Many know old lodges as much ( and often more so ) by their numbers as by their names . 1 sincerely hope liro .
