Concordia Lodge , No . 2685 . A pleasant function took place on Saturday evening , the 27 th May , at the Masonic Temple , Ermelo , S . A . R ., when the above lodge held its second annual installation in the presence of a pood number of brethren , who came to enjoy z pleasant evening . The District Grand Lodge of the Transvaal was represented by Bros . W . Springarum , Dist . j . G . D ., W . M . 2516 ; W . R . Keet , P . Dist . G . S . ; E . Kaufmann , Dist . G . S ., and the W . M . of the lodge , as Installing Master . There were also present Bro . Williams and many brethren from sister lodges .
Bro . Springarum was received in a most hearty manner , being very popular among the brethren of his town and very much respected . The installation ceremony was performed by Bro . E . Kaufmann , in a most solemn and impressive manner . Bro . D . M . Landau was" installed as W . M . for the ensuing year , and invested the following officers : Bros . S . Lazarus , S . W . ; M . Masur , J . W . ; E . Abrahams , Chaplain ; D . Machin , Treasurer and Secretary ; II . A . L . Mostert , S . D . j L . Simon , J . D . ; T .
Festenstein , Director of Ceremonies ; P . Simon , I . G . ; and B . Lazarus , Tyler . The newly-installed W . M ., Bro . D . M . Landau , then presented Bro . E . Kaufmann on behalf of the Concordia Lodge with a magnificent Past Master ' s jewel as a token of the high respect and esteem he was held in by the brethren of the lodge and on behalf of the brethren themselves with a beautiful founder ' s jewel as founder and first W . M . of the Concordia Lodge , in recognition of his valuable services to the lodge .
Alter the ceremony was over , the brethren retired to the Phrrnix Hotel , where mine host , Mr . W . M . Watson , regaled them with a luxurious repast , and a very pleasant evening was spent . The usual toasts were given in a most hearty manner . 1 he evening finished with songs and recitations , and will not soon be forgotten by those that were present .

THE FOUNDATION STONE of the new Boscombe Hospital at Bournemouth , which is to cost ^ Sooo , was laid with full Masonic ceremony by the Prov . Grand Master of Hants and the hie of Wight . Bro . W . A silver trowel , bearing an inscription , was presented by Sir John Thursby , Bart ., president of the Hospital Committee , to Bro . A MOVEMENT has been set on foot at Sheffie'd lor a memorial to Sir William Sterndale Bennett , who was born there . On Wednesday evening a meeting of musicians discussed four schemes . These were that a statue should he erected ; that musical competitions should be established , possibly on the lines ot the Mrs . Sunderland competitions at Huddersfield ; that a Chair of Music or Lectureships in Music should be founded at Sheffield University College ; or that scholarships should be founded at the Royal Academy or other national musical institution . The movement has not yet got beyondthe stage of discussion , and Wednesday's night deliberations ended with a requisition to the Lord Mayor to call a town ' s meeting on the subject .

re-embarked about 3 . 30 , and proceeded on their way to Windsor , where they arrived abcut half-past nine . The weather was simply perfect , and the beautiful river scenery was greatly admired . AT THE CHEMISTS' EXHIBITION which closed on Friday , the 23 rd ult ., the novelties exhibited were not numerous , but amongst the few articles on view for the first time may be mentioned " Famora , " the new perfume , toilet powder , and soap , at the stand of Messrs . John Gosneil and Co ., Limited , whose name will always be associated with that universal favourite , " Cherry Blossom . " With " Famora , " the
firm may be said to have gone one better , for the consensus of opinion at the Agricultural Hall was that no choicer perfu me had been produced of late years . It has plenty of body in it , as tie wine merchants say , or in other words , it is a lasting perfume , but at the same time , it is one of raie delicacy . By some it was likened to the scent of wallflowers , but the majority of experts agreed that " Famora " was a combination of the choicest perfumes and of exceptional excellence .

W . B » ach , M . P ., assisted by his Prov . Grand Officers , on Wednesday . There was a large attendance of brethren and others . A silver trowel , bearing an inscription , was presented by Sir John Thursby , Bart ., president of the Hospital Committee , to Bro . Beach , at the conclusion of whose address the National Anthem was sung . A luncheon followed . A report of which will appear next week illustrated .
A MOVEMENT has been set on foot at Sheffie'd lor a memorial to Sir William Sterndale Bennett , who was born there . On Wednesday evening a meeting of musicians discussed four schemes . These were that a statue should he erected ; that musical competitions should be established , possibly on the lines ot the Mrs . Sunderland competitions at Huddersfield ; that a Chair of Music or Lectureships in Music should be founded at Sheffield University College ; or that scholarships should be founded at the Royal Academy or other national musical institution . The movement has not yet got beyondthe stage of discussion , and Wednesday's night deliberations ended with a requisition to the Lord Mayor to call a town ' s meeting on the subject .
THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF YORK , attended by Lady Katherine Coke and Sir Charles Cust , opened the new Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital , an imposing structure in the City-road , built at a cost of £ So , ooo , on land rented from the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for 990 years , at £ 1210 a year , and with accommodation for 140 patients . THE LADIES' DAY of The Great City Lodge , No . 1426 , was celebrated on Saturday , the 24 th ult ., when a party of 63 ladies and brethren embarked on the Princess Beatrice launch at Caversham Bridge for a trip up the river to Windsor . On arriving at Sonning , they proceeded to the French Horn Hotel , where an excellent cold collation was served , and a pleasant hour or two was enjoyed on the beautiful lawn . The party
re-embarked about 3 . 30 , and proceeded on their way to Windsor , where they arrived abcut half-past nine . The weather was simply perfect , and the beautiful river scenery was greatly admired . The enjojmtnt of the trip was enhanced by the arrangements made by the Committee for the comfort of the brethren and visitors . Bros . J . H . Guyton , W . M . j Eraser , I . P . M . ; Bayley , P . M . ; and Fendick , P . M ., Treas ., were most ably seconded by the joint Secretaries—Bros . Dr . Halliwell and Piper Smith .
AT THE CHEMISTS' EXHIBITION which closed on Friday , the 23 rd ult ., the novelties exhibited were not numerous , but amongst the few articles on view for the first time may be mentioned " Famora , " the new perfume , toilet powder , and soap , at the stand of Messrs . John Gosneil and Co ., Limited , whose name will always be associated with that universal favourite , " Cherry Blossom . " With " Famora , " the
firm may be said to have gone one better , for the consensus of opinion at the Agricultural Hall was that no choicer perfu me had been produced of late years . It has plenty of body in it , as tie wine merchants say , or in other words , it is a lasting perfume , but at the same time , it is one of raie delicacy . By some it was likened to the scent of wallflowers , but the majority of experts agreed that " Famora " was a combination of the choicest perfumes and of exceptional excellence .
