The toast was received with enthusiasm , and Bro . Malcolm , P . G . D ., Eng ., suitably responded . The toast of " Prov . Grand Lodge of West Yorkshire , " also submitted by the W . M ., was most cordially received . ' In responding , Bro . Richard Wilson , P . G . D . Eng ., Dep . P . G . M ., thanked the W . M . and brethren for the hearty reception that had been accorded to him by the officers of Prov . Grand Lodge , of whom he was pleased to see so many present , it had afforded him much pleasure to accept the invitation to unfurl their beautiful banner ,

which was his first official ceremonial since his appointment as Deputy ; he referred to the invitation of the W . M ., which was put into his hand immediately before his investment as Deputy in Prov . G . Lodge , but seeing the nature of the communication he put it into his pocket until he could read and consider it in an official capacity , but it was not permitted to remain there , for at the close of Prov . G . Lodge at Wakefield the W . M . and Secretary of the lodge as a deputation waited on him , and obtained his consent to undertake the duty which had been discharged in the lodge that evening . " The Visitors" was responded to by Bros . Colefax , W . M . 302 , and Frobisher , W . M . 289 .

Other toasts followed , and in due course the Tyler s toast concluded one of the happiest and most ineresting Masonic meetings ever held in the province . The banner was manufactured by Bros . George Kenning and Son .

S . ; the Rev . R . C Fillingham , M . A ., V . E . elect ; C . P . Moore , J . Gen . ; H . J . Lardner , P . G . C , P . M . P . S ., Treas . ; Maj . T . C . Walls , P . G . G ., P . M . P . S ., Recorder ; R . Barnes , Prelate ; H . Humphries , Herald ; W . A . Scurrah , I . P . M . P . S ., G . S . ; and George Graveley , P . M . P . S ., G . S .

The minutes of the previous conclave having been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken on behalf of Bros , and Comps . J . Vaughan Sherrin and T . Leason Pewtress , and it being unanimous , they were impressively installed as members of the Order b y the M . P . S . Sir Knight the Rev . R . C . Fillingham , M . S . ; John Purrott , P . M . P . S ., and others . The conclave was then closed . The banquet was held at the Freemasons' Tavern , under the presidency of Sir Knight W . A . Scurrah , I . P . M . P . S . Upon the removal of the cloth the usual loyal and customary toasts in connection with the Order were duly proposed and honoured . Sir Knight George Graveley responded on behalf of " The Grand Senate . "

"The Health of the M . P . S . " followed , and in his absence was fluently responded to by Sir Knight W . A . Scurrah . The toast of "The V . E . and M . P . S . elect" came next in order , and was given in complimentary and well-chosen terms by the acting M . P . S . Sir Knight the Rev . R . C Fillingham , in reply , expressed his sincere thanks to the members of . the Premier Conclave for electing him to tfe high position of M . P . S . He had always taken a great interest in the Christian Degrees of Freemasonry , as he considered they were all beautiful , pure , and impressive . He hoped to be present at all future meetings . The toast of " The Newly-installed Knights " was acknowledged by Sir Knights Shertin and Pewtress .

Sir Knight H . J . Lardner responded on behalf of " The Treasurer and Recorder , " and Sir Knights Moore , Barnes , and Humphries for " The Officers . " The proceedings then terminated .

M . elect , was installed into the chair of A . The lodge was opened by the W . M ., Bro . Geo . Porter , and the minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed , Grand honours were paid to Bro . H . Thomson Lyon , A . G . D . C . England , who was present . Bro . C . Jolly , P . M ., P . P . G . D ., then , by special request , assumed the chair as Installing Officerand

, in due course installed Bro . Canning as W . M . for the ensuing 12 months . The W . M . invested his officers as fol . ows : Bros . C . Jolly , P . P . J . G . D ., I . P . M . ; W . 1 . gave the addresses , and concluded the ceremony of installation , for the rendering of which he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks , the same to be recorded on the minutes of the lodge . Bro . Porter was presented with a Past Mark Master ' s jewel . A letter of sjmpathy and condolence was ordered to be sent to the widow of our late esteemed Bro . Major W . Weston . It was then decided that the future meetings of the lodge should be held at Bro . W . Chambers ' s handsome hotel , the Star and Garter , Powis-street , Woolwich , and then the lodge was closed .

The banquet was partaken 01 at the above house , and was splendidly served . Among the other brethren present were Bros . Capt . G . Spinks , P . M ., P . P . A . G D ofC ; E . B . Hobson , P . Bro . Weston was present , and responded for the toast that was placed in his ( Bro . Lyon ' s ) hands that night . He united with them in their regret at the loss of so excellent a Mason as Bro . Weston was . Proceeding to the toast , he was pleased to know that thuy were going to have a lodge of instruction attached to their lodge . He was also exceedingly pleased to be present , and see the evident prosperity of the lodge , and the harmony that prevailed amongst them . Bro . Hobson , whose name was coupled with that of " The Provincial Grand Lojge Officers , Present and Past , " said that his term of office was now drawing to a doss .

Mark Masonry.

The Mark Degree was one that he took great interest in , and he wis sure that every officer in the province was only too proud to serve under their esteemed Provincia Grand Master . Bro . Canning , in response to an enthusiastic reception of his name , said it wiuld be his earnest endeavour to do his duty in such a manner that nothing would be wanting

on his part to maintain the position the lodge held amongst the lodges in the Province of Kent . It was very monotonous to meet time after time and have no work to do . He trusted that they would assist him by bringing good and worthy Masons to the lodge . He had two candidates in his mind , and he trusted that at that time next June they would be able to say that he had faithfully followed in the footsteps of his predecessors .

Bro . lolly having been toasted as " Installing Officer , " and having responded , Bro . Spinks , in replying for the " Past Masters , " said he was one of the oldest Past Masters of the lodge , only Bros . Penfold and Coupland being seniors to him . He was sure that every member of the lodge regretted , as he did , the loss of their late Bro . Weston , who was not only P . M . of that lodge , but held office in Grand Mark Lodge , and by his constant efforts in the cause of Charity held more votes than any brother in

the lodge , and he felt proud to be able to bear testimony to his merits . He was proud to see so many present that night to support their W . M . He was one of the founders of the lodge , and had seen it in all its phrases of distress and prosperity . He should do ail in his power , and he was sure the other Past Masters would , to make their W . M . 's year of office a happy one , and the lodge one of the foremost in the Province of Kent .

Bro . Hobson said that now he should be relegated to the rank of the " old fogies " of the lodge . He trusted they would all rally round their W . M . He had no doubt that they would have had several more Past Masters and visitors present , were it not for the fact that an important lodge and chapter were holding their audit meeting that night , for himself , their W . M . might depend on him to support him during the coming

year . Bro . Potter also responded . Bros . Nichols , Solkorn , Eedle , and J ones having responded for "The Visitors , " "The Officers , " and Tyler ' s toasts concluded the business and pleasures of the evening . Bros . Hobson , Fowler and Eedle , sang and recited splendidly .

From what he had seen that evening he had arrived at the conclusion that the Rose Croix Degree was a most beautiful and impressive on :. During the proceedings an excellent programme of music was presen ted by Ex . Bro . Egbert Roberts , which gave unqualified satisfaAion ; and Ex . Bro . Prof . Spinks , in replying for the " Past Masters , " said he was one of the oldest Past Masters of the lodge , only Bros . Penfold and Coupland being seniors to him . He was sure that every member of the lodge regretted , as he did , the loss of their late Bro . Weston , who was not only P . M . of that lodge , but held office in Grand Mark Lodge , and by his constant efforts in the cause of Charity held more votes than any brother in

the lodge , and he felt proud to be able to bear testimony to his merits . He was proud to see so many present that night to support their W . M . He was one of the founders of the lodge , and had seen it in all its phrases of distress and prosperity . He should do ail in his power , and he was sure the other Past Masters would , to make their W . M . 's year of office a happy one , and the lodge one of the foremost in the Province of Kent .

Bro . Hobson said that now he should be relegated to the rank of the " old fogies " of the lodge . He trusted they would all rally round their W . M . He had no doubt that they would have had several more Past Masters and visitors present , were it not for the fact that an important lodge and chapter were holding their audit meeting that night , for himself , their W . M . might depend on him to support him during the coming

year . Bro . Potter also responded . Bros . Nichols , Solkorn , Eedle , and J ones having responded for "The Visitors , " "The Officers , " and Tyler ' s toasts concluded the business and pleasures of the evening . Bros . Hobson , Fowler and Eedle , sang and recited splendidly .

Ex . Comp . Capt . H . Bertram , in reply , expressed his warm acknowledgments for his reception , and apologised to the chapter for having so long delayed his attendance . From what he had seen that evening he had arrived at the conclusion that the Rose Croix Degree was a most beautiful and impressive on :. "The Health of the Officers was acknowledged by Bros . Adams , Egbert Roberts , Dr . Horton , W . L . Bjjfg , and Capt . G . Carpenter . During the proceedings an excellent programme of music was presen ted by Ex . Bro . Egbert Roberts , which gave unqualified satisfaAion ; and Ex . Bro . Prof . Driver recited his poem on the 18 " Degree .
