E . Z . After dinner the us'ial toasts were honoured , those of "The Grand Superintendent , " " The M . E . Z ., " and "The Visitors , " being particularly we-ll received .

In the intervals between the speeches a capital programme of music was carried out under the direction of Comp . W . J . James , the hand bell solos by Comp . Harry Tipper being a prominent feature in the arrangements . The dinner was supplied by Mr . W . F . Sanderson , under the management of Miss Davis , and gave general satisfaction .

We publish this week a reproduction of the photograph of a distinguished c ' tizen of Westminster , who bids fair also to acquire distinction in the Masonic world , as many of his relatives have done before him . Bro . Arthur Thomas Walmisley was born in Westminster on April 27 th , 1 S 48 , and comes of an old Westminster family . He is the son of a gentleman who held an appointment in th ? Parliament Office , and was subsequently nominated by the late Earl of Aberdeen to the Foreign Office , from which he retired in

1889 , after over 40 years' service . Bro . Walmisley is the grandson of the late Thomas Forbes Walmisley , organist of St . Martin's-in-the-Fields , and a celebrated glee writer ; also the nephew of the late Dr . T . A . Walmisley , Doctor of Music and Professor at Trinity College , Cambridge . Yet another uncle—the late H . B . Walmisley—was organist at Bessborough Gardens , Westminster , and there is a stair . ed-glass window to his ' memory in this church . Among other relatives

were the late Mr . W . Walmisley , clerk to the Parliament Office , House of Lords j Mr . W . E . Walmisley , clerk of the Lords' Journals , and a well-known Freemason ; Mr . H . Walmisley , clerk of Public Bills , House of Lords ; Mr . Jno . Walmisley , connected with the official service of the House of Commons ; and last , though by no means least , the late Bro . Bro . A . T . Walmisley was educated at King ' s College School and King ' s College , of which he was elected Fellow in 1886 . Taking up civil engineering as a profession , he was engaged while yet a student in the e-rection of the roof of St . Pare-as Railway Siation , and was subsequently employed as resident engineer upon thi Albert Bridge across the Thames at Chelsea . In 18 76 , he was engaged under Sir A . R . Binnie , now chief engineer to the London County Council , upon the reservoirs and high level water supply at Bradford , Bro .

Walmisley next started business for hinself at his present ollices , 9 , Victoriastreet , S . W ., ar . d has since been engaged on the design of the miin part of Olympic , Kensington , the Central Corporation Market roo , the Borough Market reconstruction at London Bridge ; and other works . He is well known as an efficient witness on eng ' neering schemes before Parliumnt , and has frequently acted as aibitrator upon rumination by masteis in legil cases in more than one Important matter tried in the Court of King ' s Bench . He was one of three candidates selected out of a Urge number for the oost of Gresham lecturer on

Geometry at Gresham College in 1894 . He had previously , in iS 33 , delivere 1 a ccurse of lectures at the City Guild * ' Central Institution , and a specie ! lecture in 188 9 , at the Sc ' iool of Military Engineering , Chatham , upon " Mathe . matiial ar . d Surveying Instruments . " Bro , Walmisley is a member of th ; Institut on of Civil Engineers , ill .-Geologists' A . siciition , the London Chamber cf Con merce , Hon , Associtti of the Royal Institute of Brithish Architects , Fellow of the Imperial Institut .-, Eximiner in Civil Engineering at the City of London College , and in Land-surveying at the Birkbeck Institution , and was

appointed engineer to tbe Dover Harbour Board under tbe chairmanship of the late Earl Granville . He is also past president of the Society of Engineers and of the Civil and Mechanical Engineers' Association , and Fellow of the Surveyors ' Institution . He was one of the examiners of candidates for the Cork Harbour engineership in 18 95 , and is the author of standard works on " Iron Roofs , " " Field Works and Instruments , " and of " Land Surveying and Levelling , " in " The Builder" student series .

Bro . Walmisley was initiated into Masonry in the Cordwainer Ward Lodge No . 2241 , in November , 18 95 , and after passing through the chairs , he was installed W . M . of his lodge on Wednesday , the 15 th instant . In view of his already brilliant career , his friends anticipate the time when Bro . Walmisley will emulate his distinguished relative , the late Grand Secretary cf Ireland , and attain to Grand Lodge honours .

At the installation the lodge was opened by the W . M ., Bro . James Dangerfield , and Bro . W . T . Mercer was raised . Bro . C . J . Provincial Grand Lodge Of Staffordshire.

PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF STAFFORDSHIRE .

The annual meeting of the above Provincial Grand Lodge was held at Tamworth , on Monday , the 20 th ult ., when over 200 brethren attended from all parts of the Province . Bro . the Earl of Dartmouth , Provincial Grand Master , and Lord-Lieutenant of the county , presided . In the course of his opening address the PROVINCIAL GRAND MASTER made a sympathetic reference to the death of the Queen . He said it was not

necessary tb pass a resolution , as that had already been done by the Grand Lodge . Her Majesty was Grand Patroness of the Order . They were all glad lo know that his Majesty would continue to advise and give his countenance to the Order by being in the position of Grand Protector . " His Lordship congratulated the Order upon its flourishing condition in the

province , and said he was pleased to occupy the position of Provincial Grand Master . Bro . C . A . Newnham was elected P . G . Treasurer . The Provincial Grand Master appointed and invested the Provincial Grand Ofiicers for the ensuing year as follows :

as the representative of the province on the Committee of the Royal Masonic Institution for Bjys at the next election . The brethren , wearing their regalia , subsequently walked in procession to the ancient Parish Church , where an appropriate sermon was preached by Bro . the Rev . W . SOLLY , P . G . C .

The offertory amounted to £ 12 14 ? . 1 id . Of this sum £% was allotted to the funds of St . Editha ' s Church , ^ 5 to the Tamworth Cottage Hospital , and the balance assigned to the Chaplain ' s Fund . The annual banquet was afterwards held at the Castle Hotel .

The brethren , wearing their regalia , subsequently walked in procession to the ancient Parish Church , where an appropriate sermon was preached by Bro . the Rev . W . SOLLY , P . G . C .

The offertory amounted to £ 12 14 ? . 1 id . Of this sum £% was allotted to the funds of St . Editha ' s Church , ^ 5 to the Tamworth Cottage Hospital , and the balance assigned to the Chaplain ' s Fund . The annual banquet was afterwards held at the Castle Hotel .
