With preat regret we announce the death , in his 36 th year , of Bro . Albert Cowley , of the Royal York Lodge , Brighton . He -was for many years the caterer for the West Pier Restaurant , where he , as also in private life , made many friends . He had been for some time in failing health . A sorrowing widow and a large family are left to mourn his loss .

THE annual meeting was held on Friday , the 25 th ult ., at tho Royal Pavilion , Brighton . The brethren assembled for the purpose of installing Bro . Dr . Cunningham as Provincial Grand Mark Master for Sussex . The ceremony was performed by the R . W . tho Earl of Limerick , M . VV . G . M . M . of England , who was accompanied by Bro . F . Binckes G . M . Secretary . The P . G . M . Lodgo having been opened , the installation ceremony was performed . The P . G . M .

appointed Dr . 'i ' rolliipe , of Hastings , as his Deputy , Bros . Braithwaito S . W . and G . Smith J . W . Various matters having been brought forward , the G . M . Lodge was closed , and the brethren sat down to a banquet , provided by Bro . A . R . Reynard , of North-street . The usual Loyal , Masonic and other toasts were given and responded to , and a very agreeable aud harmonious evening was passed . Thero was a numerous attendance .

At the installation of Sir D . McLean , on tho 24 th June , the Wellington Provincial Hall was crowded , no fewer than three hundred persons being present , including representatives from all parts of the colony . The ceremony was performed in the most impressive manner

FUNERAL OF THE LATE BRO . J . H . LEVIEN , OF NELSON .

THE f nneral of the late respected Mayor took place on Thursday , 8 th June , and in compliance with the expressed wish of the deceased gentleman , was conducted according to the ancient rites of Freemasonry . The brethren of the Southern Star Lodge , opened Lodge at high noon , left their Hall at 2 . 30 , and proceeded to the residence of their deceased brother , where a procession was formed in the following order : —

Artillery Band . Tyler and Inner Guard . Marshal . Marshal . Master Masons , two and two . Secretary and Treasurer . Senior and Junior Wardens . Past Masters .

The Holy Writings on a cushion carried by tho Senior Member of the Lodge . Tho Worshipful Master , attended by Deacons . Pall Bearers . Pall Bearers . Members of City m .. ™™ Members of City Council . tiEARSE Council . Chief Mourners . Citizens .

In this order the cartige passed through Trafalgar and Bridge-streets , and proceeded to the New Cemetery by the Collingwood-s , treet Bridge , where conveyances were provided . A reived at the grave , P . M . Bro . Dr . Sealy read a short portion of the Cbnrch of England burial service and the solemn Masonic service for the dead in a very impressive manner , during which the Masonic apron and sprigs of acacia were

deposited upon tho coffin . The Masonic service was brought to a conclusion by the assembled brethren singing a hymn , and the procession returned to town in reversed order to that observed in their going forth . Deceased belonged to the Hebrew persuasion , bnt at the desire of his wife , a Christian lady , requested to be interred in the Cemetery belonging to the Church of England . The Rev . J . Leighton ,

incumbent of Christ Church , being present at the grave , pronounced the benediction ( at the immediate request of the officiating brother ) at the close of the obsequies . No members of the Hebrew faith , excepting the nearest relatives of the deceased , attended tho funeral , although our brother departed this life in the faith of his forefathers , only desiring to share the same spot of earth with his amiable and devoted wife , when the time should arrive for her being called hence .
